They were not only friendly but also took great care of us at every step, handling every situation with ease. The entire journey was incredible and soul-fulfilling, especially the visits to Chitkul, Dhankar, and Chandratal Lake, which were simply magical. The group was amazing, and I cherished every single moment spent together. “I recently returned from an all-girls Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel, and I can confidently say it was one of the most memorable and magical experiences of my life! Spiti itself is breathtaking, but what truly made this journey unforgettable was the incredible organization 👏 and energy 🤣 brought by our wonderful trip captains, Anshika Dubey and Neha Bisht. From the very first meeting in Delhi to our stays, accommodations, and travels, everything was seamlessly managed. Even when unexpected weather challenges came our way, both Anshika and Neha handled every situation with remarkable promptness and calmness.🫡 What made this trip even more special was the sense of sisterhood among all the girls — a space full of support and laughter. Traveling together felt like being part of one big family, where we encouraged each other, helped capture memories, and celebrated every little moment. The friendly, approachable, and vibrant personalities of the girls and the captains created an atmosphere where everyone instantly felt at ease. Whether it was singing along during long drives, clicking endless pictures, laughing over silly moments and songs, or sharing stories, there was never a dull moment with them around. The genuine laughter and contagious positivity of both Anshika and Neha set the tone for the entire group. Thank you, JW, for creating such a beautiful experience and for bringing together amazing women to explore one of India’s most stunning destinations. And an extra special thanks ❤️😍 to Anshika Dubey and Neha Bisht for being the heart and soul of this journey.”

Overview

In this All-Girls Road Trip to Spiti Valley, we explore “the middle land” that’s nestled between India and Tibet. For a long time, life in Spiti had been all about herding cattle, chanting the name of Buddha, and silent valleys. However, in recent years, due to Spiti Valley being the embodiment of peace whilst also providing the thrill of driving on impassable roads, tourism in Spiti Valley has increased a lot. The picturesque landscapes, rocky terrains, majestic mountains, and patches of green meadows make this place one of the most beautiful destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

The aim of curating this All Girls Spiti Valley trip, is because we believe in encouraging female solo travelers to rediscover themselves while bonding with other women who share the same passion for traveling as them.  If you're someone who has always wished to go on backpacking trip, then this trip is exactly what you need because we cover all the best places in Spiti Valley that you simply can’t miss out on.

The ever-flowing Spiti river is overlooked by highlands and Himalayan peaks. The winding roads and rocky terrains make the drive to Spiti full of thrill and adventure while in the lap of crescent moon-shaped lakes such as Chandrataal, one finds the peace of mind that they crave in metropolitan cities.

In this All-girls Spiti Valley trip, we begin our journey from Delhi and head towards Chitkul after making a brief stop at Shimla. The Hindustan-Tibet highway is arguably better because it helps your body to get acclimatized, not to mention that the view is to die for. The glimpse that this route provides of the landscape of Himachal too is one of the reasons that make this the best route to reach Spiti valley.

This trip starts on a high note as the first halt in this Spiti valley road trip is Chitkul. Famous for being the last village on the Indo-Tibet border, not many people know that Chitkul also has the cleanest air in the country. As you spend some time in Chitkul, you will start to understand the slow-paced, quaint life people live in the mountains but it’s only just the beginning as we will have a long journey ahead of us that will provide you with a different outlook on life, as we unravel all the different layers of Spiti.

Our next stop is Kalpa, a tiny hamlet nestled in the Sutlej river valley, known for its apple orchards. A rich history, scenic views of the Kinnaur Kailash ranges, ancient temples, monasteries, and century-old traditions are just a few things that Kalpa has to offer. We will spend some leisure time in this small village and let ourselves marvel at the wonder of nature in peace.

Before reaching our next designated stop, we will stop briefly at Nako, home to many Stupas as well as a 1000-year-old Monastery. Nestled in the heart of the trans-Himalayan ranges, every nook and corner of Nako overflows with peace and even spending a few moments by the Nako lake and paying reverence to the Nako Monastery will leave a lasting impression on you.

Kaza, overlooked by high mountain ridges, with the Spiti river running from North to South, is the binding link between different districts and valleys. It connects Spiti to Lahaul as well as Kinnaur valley and is one of the oldest towns in India. Kaza would be our designated stay for the time being that we spend exploring Spiti and visiting all the attractions that the valley has to offer. Our sightseeing tour of Spiti includes all the places that have the true essence of Spiti valley present in their walls. As most people are aware that Spiti is abode to many Monasteries, some of them dating back to the 1st Millenia.

The Key Monastery, locally known as Kye Gompa situated at an altitude of 13,668 Ft is the biggest center of Buddhist learning and is the place where all the Lamas get their training from an early age. The monastery has managed to preserve not only ancient relics including the images of Buddha but is one of the strong pillars upon which the foundation of Spiti stands strong.

The next attraction of this tour, the Chicham Bridge is Asia’s highest bridge, perched upon a height of more than 13,000 feet and links the village of Chicham with Kibber. A 1000ft deep gorge called Samba Lamba Nallah runs below the bridge and is a sight to behold. It took approximately 15 years to construct this bridge but it was worth it, as it helps both locals and tourists to traverse easily.

Situated at an altitude of 14,400ft, the highest post office in the world, Hikkim, is another marvel that the Spiti valley has to offer. A functional post office with a tendency to turn every visitor into an old-school soul, a visit to Hikkim is incomplete without diving into the 90s nostalgia of writing letters to your loved ones and then dropping them in the red mailbox.

A lot of travelers especially women adore this place because of its ability to make words pour out of you even if you are not expressive with them in the first place, hence we make a point to not miss a visit to Hikkim on our all-girls trip to Spiti valley.

In Komic, a village popular for being the highest village in the world connected by a motorable road, you can take a stroll and experience the slow-paced life of Spiti from up close.

On our way to the crescent moon-shaped lake, Chandra Taal, we make a brief pit stop at Kunzum Pass, or Kunzum La as the locals call it. The high mountain pass connects Lahaul and Spiti Valley and is a gateway to Chandratal by a 15km trek.

Chandra Taal, loosely translating to Moon lake, is a pristine lake usually surrounded by flowers and wildlife in summer. The lake is surrounded by a vast expanse of green meadows which give birth to many blooming flowers during spring adding more charm to the lake's beauty.

Last, but in no way the least, stop of ours is Langza which is home to many fossils that were once creatures of the sea, as experts believe. Langza is also known as the village of gods for its spiritual significance and the 1000-year-old Buddha statue that overlooks the village as an ever-vigilant protector of the locals.

The return journey of our all-girls Spiti road trip would be no less exciting than the actual trip, for we will be traversing through Rohtang Pass and witnessing the panoramic view of the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas throughout the entire drive.

The experience of Spiti Valley largely depends on the quaint villages, vibrant towns, ancient monasteries, high-altitude passes, green meadows, and more. A perfect blend of all beautiful landscapes possible is why Spiti remains on the bucket list of so many travelers and is a perfect reason of why you must go on a trip to little Tibet.

The best time to visit Spiti Valley, especially if you want to make sure to experience it in all its glory, is from the months of February to April as the entire region is covered in a thick blanket of snow.

However, if you don't want to miss out on visiting the scenic Chandratal and want to have the best of both worlds then the best time to visit Spiti Valley for you and your girl gang would be from the month of June to September.

Even if an All Girls Road Trip to Spiti Valley wasn’t on your bucket list before, we urge you to go on this trip because it’s an experience of a lifetime. One you must have.

Since Key Monastery is one of the most prominent spots in Spiti, we make sure that we cover it in the itinerary.

What is the actual distance between Lahaul-Spiti and Delhi by road?

If you're going by road and choosing the Shimla route from Delhi then it would take approximately 18 hours of driving for you to reach there if you don’t make many pit stops but that’s entirely up to you. Now, if you're taking the Manali route then at least 24 hours in the car, driving is required and you need to make a pit stop after reaching Manali or you'll be very much exhausted otherwise. The weather is extremely pleasant during June in Spiti Valley as the summer starts to settle down in the valley. When is Spiti Valley Open?

Routes to Spiti Valley are open all around the year, but there is a little distinction. While the Shimla route is open all around the year, the Manali route closes for a brief time due to the closing of Kunzum Pass. Moreover, the Manali route is open from June to October.

How to Travel from Delhi to Spiti by Flight?

Spiti Valley does not have its own airport due to its high-altitude and rugged terrain. Air travel to Spiti therefore involves a combination of flight and road journey. The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (Kullu–Manali). What Is the Best Time to Visit Spiti Valley?

The best time to visit Spiti Valley depends largely on the kind of experience you are seeking. For travelers who prefer comfortable weather and easier road conditions, Summer Spiti, which runs from June to October, is the most suitable period. During these months, temperatures are relatively mild, roads are more accessible, and travel is less challenging. On the other hand, if you wish to experience Spiti in its raw, snow-covered form, the winter season from November to May offers a more dramatic and rugged landscape. This period showcases the valley’s stark beauty, frozen rivers, and snow-laden villages, making it ideal for those seeking a true winter Himalayan experience.

How to Reach Spiti Valley from Shimla?

There are two routes to reach Spiti. One is via Manali while the other is via Shimla. Shimla route is considered to be one of the best routes to reach Spiti Valley especially when it comes to winter Spiti road trips. The gradual ascend makes it easy for people to get acclimatized to the high altitude and weather conditions. Not to mention that the views in the backdrop of the Hindustan-Tibet highway make it all the more worth it.

How is the weather like in Spiti Valley during summers?

Spiti is known as the winter wonderland but the valley remains beautiful throughout. The snow melts away during summers to give way for the fields to grow. The entire valley becomes green with the barren land nowhere in sight. You get to see the cattles grazing in the fields and the rivers that freeze during winters start flowing ceaselessly once again. Spiti valley in summers is as beautiful as it is in winters. The temperature in Spiti during summers remain 15 degree celsius above so the weather is extremely pleasant.

Everything you need to know about Spiti

A piece of poetry, a piece of heaven,

A piece of serenity and solitude;

That is the Spiti Valley…

A road trip to Spiti Valley, whether it’s summer or winter, is a dream of every traveler. And why is that a dream? It proudly showcases some of the most isolated vistas on the planet, as well as some of the highest settlements in the world.

As you step into Spiti Valley, you are greeted by long, winding roads and valleys that offer breathtaking views of the cold desert and snow-capped mountains. Surrounded by the mighty Himalayas, Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh sits at an altitude of 12,500 feet above sea level, receiving only about 250 days of sunshine annually, making it one of the chilliest places in the nation.

The name "Spiti" translates to 'The Middle Land', signifying its location between India and Tibet. This region is adorned with numerous ancient monasteries, including the magnificent Key Monastery, which is over a millennium old and stands as the largest monastery in Spiti Valley.

Spiti, with its sparse population, is a haven for adventure enthusiasts, offering a plethora of trekking routes and mountain passes to explore. Kunzum La provides a mesmerizing 360-degree vista of the Bara-Shigri Glacier, the world's second-longest glacier.

Another enchanting destination is Chandratal Lake, where the water transforms from reddish hues to shades of orange, blue, and emerald green as dusk approaches. Due to heavy snowfall isolating Spiti from the rest of the country for approximately six months each year, the summer season remains the sole period when Spiti is directly accessible by road.

Spiti Valley stands as a focal point for both academic research and spiritual exploration for followers of Buddhism, attracting travelers with its distinctive offerings. One of its standout features is the Key Monastery, recognized as one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a personal favorite of the Dalai Lama.

Whether your interests lie in spirituality, history, or the cinematic charm of Spiti, these packages can ensure that your trip is both pleasurable and enriching.

Spiti will make you understand the value of little things in life, the moments when we become ourselves, the moments that we will chase and find the inner child we lost, a valley that will heal you for things that no one ever asked sorry for. And in every letter, it is true… SPITI VALLEY IS A WORLD WITHIN A WORLD.  A world of simplicity and a world of togetherness…

Here is everything you need to know about Spiti Valley….

How to Reach Spiti Valley

To reach Spiti Valley in summer and winter, you have two main routes to consider. In summer, you can access Spiti Valley from both Manali and Shimla. However, during winter, due to heavy snowfall, the Rohtang pass is closed, making the Shimla route the only option to reach Spiti Valley. The Shimla route is preferred in winter as it allows for a gradual gain in altitude, reducing the risk of altitude sickness.

Summer Spiti Valley: During the summer months, Spiti Valley offers a mesmerizing experience with its lush green landscapes and pleasant weather. Travelers can access Spiti Valley from both Manali and Shimla, with the Manali route being a popular choice. This route provides stunning views and passes through attractions like Kullu Valley, making the journey a scenic delight for adventurers seeking a summer escape.

Winter Spiti Valley: In contrast, winter in Spiti Valley transforms the region into a snowy wonderland, offering a unique and challenging adventure. The winter route to Spiti Valley from Shimla via Kinnaur is preferred due to the closure of the Manali route during winter. This itinerary spans over 9-10 days, allowing travelers to explore destinations like Tabo, Kaza, and Nako, providing a glimpse into the raw beauty of Spiti Valley amidst the winter snowscapes.

A bike trip to Spiti Valley during summer is a dream for many, offering a thrilling experience on the well-paved Shimla-Spiti route amidst the rugged terrains and barren landscapes.

Winter Spiti Valley: Spiti Valley in winter, from late October to early March, transforms into a mesmerizing white haven draped in snow. The valley's landscape changes dramatically, offering a stark difference from the summer months.

I recently returned from an all-girls Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel, and I can confidently say it was one of the most memorable and magical experiences of my life! And an extra special thanks ❤️😍 to Anshika Dubey and Neha Bisht for being the heart and soul of this journey.
