Trekkers at Brahmatal Summit during sunrise with snow-covered Himalayan peaks in Uttarakhand.

“I had recently been on Brahmatal trek with JustWravel with Kavita as my trek guide. To begin with, this was my very first Himalayan trek and I was quite skeptical as to the difficulty, the temperature and mainly the food and hygiene concerns. Our trek lead, Kavita was just an amazing, making sure she was with everyone throughout. She was extremely kind, fun and when required strict enough to make sure we respected and valued each and every detail. She was extremely helpful, and tending to all our needs from day 1 until the very end. She kept motivating each one, almost throughout the entire course of trek. Next, the campsite - Beautiful and aesthetic and just serene. The nature, the cleanliness of campsite, the tents, everything spot on. Tents were all sited in a beautiful location and were spacious enough and the sleeping bags were clean. Had no problem, sleeping, despite being my very first. Food - It is quite obvious that we would expect the bare minimum on treks like this to get good food, but, turned out the opposite. I guess, the entire trek we had such amazing food, especially freshly cooked, yum food, and a lot of variety. They were sweet enough to make sure to add sweet dishes to the menu - just the perfect thing needed to celebrate small wins of making it to another campsite. Hygiene - The eco - bathrooms were clean and we were made sure we left it clean enough for the next person to use it without a problem. The communication before the trek was clear on Whatsapp. The pricing was extremely reasonable considering the attention to details the entire team has put in to make sure every trekker, beginner to experienced felt satisfied. Overall, this trek has been an amazing one, because of all the aspects, and credits to Kavita for making it even more memorable. Leaving this trek, with a lot of memories, smiles and definitely rooting for more treks in the coming future.”

“I recently embarked on the Brahmatal Trek under the guidance of an outstanding trek leader “Kavitha”, and I must say that it was an experience of a lifetime. She played a pivotal role in making the entire journey not only enjoyable but truly memorable. From the outset, she exuded passion for the mountains and a genuine enthusiasm for leading treks. Her knowledge of the trail and the surrounding terrain was evident, providing us with a sense of confidence and security throughout the trek. She knew how to balance the seriousness of trekking with moments of lightheartedness, injecting humor and enthusiasm into the group. It was evident that she was not just a trek leader but someone genuinely passionate about creating lasting memories for her trekkers. In conclusion, the Brahmatal Trek would not have been the same without the group itself. I wholeheartedly recommend JustWravel, and I look forward to embarking on future adventures under Kavitha’s guidance.”

Overview

The Brahmatal Trek is one of the most popular winter treks in Uttarakhand, known for its beautiful snow-covered trails, alpine forests, and clear views of major Himalayan peaks. The total trekking distance is about 24 km, and the trek reaches an altitude of around 3,734 m (12,250 ft) at the highest point.

During the trek, you get to see some of the most famous Himalayan mountains including Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Mt. Chaukhamba, Mt. Neelkanth, and Hathi Ghoda peaks. The trail passes through dense oak and rhododendron forests, frozen lakes, and wide open snowfields, making every day of the trek scenic and memorable. For a deeper insight into the terrain and what makes this route special, you can explore Everything About the Brahmatal Trek.

Brahmatal Lake and Landscape Experience

One of the major highlights of the trek is the stunning Brahmatal Lake, a calm high-altitude lake that remains surrounded by snow in the winter months. During sunlight, the snow reflects warm golden tones across the valley, creating an atmosphere that feels dreamlike and peaceful. For nature lovers, photographers, and anyone desiring a quiet Himalayan experience in winter, Brahmatal is one of the best snow treks in India.

Best Time to Do Brahmatal Trek

The best time to visit Brahmatal is from December to February, when the trail remains entirely snow-covered and the winter views are at their peak. If you prefer clearer mountain paths, green forests, and moderate temperatures, then October and November provide beautiful landscapes and pleasant trekking conditions. To help you choose your dates, here is a detailed guide: Best Time to Visit Brahmatal Trek

Starting Point and Duration

This is a 5 Nights / 6 Days trek and begins from Lohajung, a small mountain village located ~300 km from Dehradun. The first day includes arrival and stay at Lohajung, where the trek leader will give a safety and route briefing. From the next morning, the trek begins through forests to Bekaltal, and then further to Brahmatal Lake, and finally to the Brahmatal Summit. If you need more information about reaching the starting point, this resource will help: How to Reach Brahmatal Trek

Itinerary Summary

The journey starts with a drive from Rishikesh to Lohajung, passing through the beautiful river confluences of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag. After resting for the night in Lohajung, the trek begins the next day through forests to reach Bekaltal, where trekkers stay beside the lake. The trail then continues toward Brahmatal Lake, passing through Telandi, which appears as lush green meadows in autumn and transforms into soft snowfields during winter. The trek then proceeds to the Brahmatal Summit, where panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayan range appear especially magical during sunrise. After spending time at the summit, trekkers descend back to the Brahmatal base campsite and finally return to Lohajung. On the last day, the group travels back from Lohajung to Rishikesh, concluding the journey with unforgettable memories. A full breakdown is available here: Brahmatal Trek Day-Wise Itinerary

Who Should Do This Trek

The Brahmatal Trek is suitable for first-time trekkers, solo travelers, friends traveling in groups, and trekkers wishing to experience snow for the very first time. The route is well-marked and has a moderate difficulty level, making it safe, enjoyable, and accessible for anyone with basic fitness and willingness to walk at a steady pace.

Why Brahmatal Is One of the Most Loved Winter Treks in India

The combination of snow-covered lakes, peaceful forests, gentle mountain terrain, and clear sunrise views over iconic Himalayan peaks makes the Brahmatal Trek feel both calming and rewarding. With every campsite offering a quiet, open, and star-lit night sky, this trek becomes less of a journey and more of a memory that stays long after you return home. Will you provide sleeping bags and mattresses?

Yes, we will provide sleeping bags and mattresses during the trek. Our sleeping bags can withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees.

What type of food is served during the trek?

We provide nutritious and healthy food during the treks. We always serve Indian vegetarian food and eggs.
