Description
What is Karnataka famous for? Start with the fact that it's India's fourth most visited state, and you'll get a sense of its popularity. But numbers don't tell the full story.
Karnataka is famous for its diversity. It's where you'll find the ancient ruins of the Vijayanagar Empire in Hampi, the majestic palaces of Mysore, the coffee estates of Coorg and Chikmagalur that supply India's best brews, and wildlife sanctuaries where tigers and leopards still roam.
The state also has the second-highest number of protected monuments in India. Our customized Karnataka packages give you access to all of this without the hassle of planning. You might be looking for a heritage-focused trip, a nature retreat, or a mix of everything; these customized holiday packages are built around what you want to experience.
The cost of Karnataka trip packages varies depending on what you choose to include. A 3-day Karnataka tour can start from budget-friendly options, while a more comprehensive 5-7 day trip with wildlife safaris, premium hotel stays, and private transfers will be higher. What matters is understanding what's included in your price.
Our customized Karnataka vacation packages can include:
When you book a Karnataka tour package with JustWravel, there are no hidden costs. You know upfront what you're paying for and why. Want to add more destinations? Remove a safari? Upgrade your hotel? You can customize the Karnataka travel packages to match your budget and preferences.
There are a lot of different places to visit in Karnataka. Each place here offers a different vibe. We have listed a few below so that you can easily choose the kind of experience you want to have.
Karnataka's heritage sites span centuries and architectural styles, each offering a different chapter of Indian history.
Start with Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former capital of the Vijayanagar Empire. When you walk through the bazaar, visit Virupaksha Temple, and take a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River, the ruins scattered across the landscape tell stories of a civilization that ruled the Deccan for over 200 years.
Moving south, Mysore is synonymous with royalty. The Indo-Saracenic Mysore Palace is the city's heart, and Chamundi Hills offers expansive views of the city. Try to be in Karnataka during Dasara festival (September-October) and you'll witness one of India's most colorful celebrations here.
In the Hassan district, Belur and Halebidu have some of India's most intricate stone carvings. The Chennakeshava Temple in Belur and Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebidu represent the peak of Hoysala architecture. These carvings literally took decades to complete on walls, pillars, and ceilings.
Bijapur's Gol Gumbaz dominates with the world's second-largest dome after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Built during the Adil Shahi dynasty, its whispering gallery creates a unique acoustic experience where sound bounces in ways that let a whisper carry across the entire space.
Our Karnataka tour packages options let you combine these sites based on your interests and available time.
Karnataka's hill stations are the best way to experience the cool weather surrounded by verdant mountains.
Coorg, also known as the ‘Coffee Bowl of India’, is a favorite place for families. There are multiple things to do here. You may visit Abbey Falls for a short trek, spend time at Raja's Seat for sunset views, and explore Madikeri Fort.
Chikkamagaluru takes the coffee experience further. Chikmagalur is the home to Mullayanagiri Peak, which is Karnataka's highest point at 6332 ft. There is a 3-4 hour trek towards Mullayanagiri, which offers beautiful views of the Western Ghats. The Coorg Chikamagalur tour package gives you the best experience of both the places.
If you are looking for quick sightseeing, explore Nandi Hills. It is just 60km away from Bangalore. The moderate trek up rewards you with sunrise views over the Western Ghats. On clear days, you can see all the way to Chikballapur. You may check out this Nandi Hills tour package.
If you want solitude and pristine landscapes, choose Agumbe. Agumbe is also called the "Cherrapunji of the South". It receives some of India's highest rainfall, making it a biodiversity hotspot. It is less crowded than Coorg or Chikmagalur, and is ideal for travelers avoiding tourist circuits. Visit during monsoon (June-September) to see the Western Ghats at their greenest.
Karnataka is also famous for its clean and vast coastline.
Gokarna is still considered as an offbeat destination in Karnataka. If you want solitude, then go to Gokarna. If you want to visit the most famous beaches of Karnataka, choose Kudle, Om, Half Moon, and Paradise beach. They are all a short trek or boat ride from each other. To get the view from a cliff, visit Mahabaleshwar Temple.
Explore Karwar, a working port city with a different vibe. If you want to look out places that have some historical significance, check out the Rabindranath Tagore Beach and the historic lighthouse adjacent to it. Also, visit The INS Chapal warship, which is now converted into a museum. There are multiple water activities to choose from. All of them combined Kayaking and makes a Gokarna and Karwar package a complete coastal experience.
Udupi brings a spiritual dimension to the coast. The Krishna Temple, one of South India's most important pilgrimage sites. The town is also a haven for vegetarian food culture, so get ready to eat authentic and well-prepared meals.
Murudeshwar temple adds to the spirituality in Karnataka. The 123-foot Shiva statue, which is the world's second-tallest Shiva statue, sits on a rocky outcrop surrounded by sea. And the sunset from the gopuram steps is something that you can only feel.
Finally, Mangalore, Karnataka's major port city, is known less for beaches and more for its food culture. Fish curry and coastal cuisine define the town's taste. It works as a starting or ending point for a larger coastal Karnataka itinerary.
20% of Karnataka’s land is forest. It is one of the major biodiversity hotspots in India and the perfect reason for wildlife enthusiasts to experience the wildlife here.
Kabini is the perfect place for travelers to be. The Nagarhole National Park surrounds the Kabini backwaters, creating a unique landscape for boat safaris. You'll watch for elephants, sambar deer, tigers, and leopards here. The best time is dawn and dusk when you'll see herds of elephants at the water's edge and catch that golden light.
For a different landscape, Bandipur is situated on the Mysore-Ooty highway and is one of India's largest tiger reserves. Jeep safaris run at 6am and 3pm slots, and the reserve is home to over 900 elephants. The dry deciduous forest differs from Kabini's lush setting, but it's equally rewarding.
If you want adventure mixed with wildlife, Dandeli National Park is unique. The Kali River runs through it, and you can do river rafting while spotting wildlife. This kind of combination is rare in India. The region is also excellent for birdwatching and has a more adventurous feel than traditional safari setups.
For a quieter experience, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary near Chikmagalur in the Western Ghats is less crowded than Kabini or Bandipur but equally rewarding. It is home to tigers, leopards, Indian bison, and various bird species, it offers jeep safaris and trekking options.
When spirituality is combined with architectural grandiosity, the place becomes special.
Shravanabelagola in Karnataka is the place which combines spiritual atmosphere and skilled architecture. It is home to the 57-foot monolithic statue of Gommateshwara, one of the world's tallest stone statues and a major Jain pilgrimage site. The statue is the focal point of the Mahamastakabhisheka festival, held every 12 years, where thousands of devotees gather to anoint it with milk, yogurt, and flowers. Even outside festival years, the site draws pilgrims year-round.
Next up is Dharmasthala. This place stands out for two reasons: the Manjunatha Temple and the free meals served to all visitors, called "Anna Santarpane." This is a living example of the principle that hospitality is sacred.
Udupi Krishna Matha is the center of Udupi's spiritual life. It is an 800 year old temple. The Paryaya festival, held every 12 years, is a major event where temple management rotates between different maths (monasteries). The temple's kitchen produces some of the best vegetarian food you'll eat.
Finally, Kollur Mookambika Temple is at the confluence of the Souparnika River and the Arabian Sea, creating a stunning setting. It's a Hindu pilgrimage site that attracts crowds during Magha Maasa (December-January). The temple is located on a hill and requires a short trek to reach there.
If spotting wildlife gives you thrill, then you have to visit Karnataka.
Kabini offers boat safaris at dawn and dusk where you'll see elephants at the water's edge, langurs jumping through trees, and occasional sightings of tigers and leopards. The safaris run in small groups, which means a more intimate experience than crowded safari parks elsewhere. The Kabini safari package is designed so that you get the best timing for sightings.
Bandipur's jeep safaris at 6am and 3pm are high-energy drives through dry deciduous forest. You'll spot Indian Gaur (wild bison), chital deer, and if conditions are right, tigers. The reserve is home to over 900 elephants, so you'll see herds here regularly. The Bandipur Mysore package combines wildlife with heritage.
Dandeli offers a different kind of wildlife experience. You get to do river rafting through Kali River while spotting wildlife in Dandeli National Park. It's adventure and wildlife combined. Dandeli adventure is for travelers who want more than just sitting in a jeep.
Karnataka is one of the best destinations in South India for adventure enthusiasts, with some of the best treks in Karnataka taking you through the lush Western Ghats, misty hills, dense forests, and scenic coffee plantations.
The Mullayanagiri Peak in Chikmagalur is Karnataka's highest point at 6,332 ft. The trek takes 3-4 hours, is moderate in difficulty, and the views from the top are expansive. The rolling hills and valleys stretch in all directions. It is advisable to start early to catch sunrise from the top.
Kudremukh is a challenging 20 km trail through the Western Ghats that takes you through diverse landscapes. It takes you through forests, grasslands, streams. This is for trekkers with some experience.
Tadiandamol in Coorg is Coorg's highest peak at 5,734 ft. It is 14 kilometers of total trek distance. The trek is moderate, takes about 3-4 hours, and you'll walk through coffee plantations and forests. Starting early gives you misty mornings and fewer crowds.
Nandi Hills, 60km from Bangalore, is a beginner-friendly trek. The climb is steady, and the views from the top are rewarding, especially on clear days.
Chikmagalur has several trekking trails of varying difficulty. Beyond Mullayanagiri, you have Jhari Falls trek, Hebbe Falls trek, and routes through coffee estates.
For enjoying the coastal activities and beach experiences in Karnataka, start with a visit to Gokarna. It has four main beaches, and beach hopping between them is a popular activity. You can do the 5 beach trek to get a different experience or take a boat to explore the beaches. Each beach has its own character; Kudle is the most developed, Om Beach (shaped like the Om symbol) is a traveler's hub, Half Moon is quieter, and Paradise is the least crowded. The Gokarna 4 Nights 5 Days package includes beach hopping and stays close to the beaches.
Snorkeling at St. Mary's Island near Udupi is an activity that is still hidden from most of the tourists. The island has clear waters and vibrant marine life. You need a boat to get there.
Kayaking and dolphin spotting at Karwar is a must do activity. It happens in the early mornings when the seas are calm. The dolphins here are playful, and paddling through the waters while spotting them is an experience. The Karwar kayaking is seasonal, so timing matters.
Murudeshwar offers amazing diving opportunities. Just head to Netrani island, which is also known as Pigeon island for diving. Sunset at Kudle beach is famous amongst travelers to end the day on a sweet note.
Hampi lends itself to a bicycle tour. You can rent bicycles from Hampi Bazaar and cycle through the ruins at your own pace. This gives you a different perspective than a guided tour. The kind of heritage exploration appeals to travelers who like independence with some guidance.
Mysore Palace's night illumination takes place on Sundays and public holidays, when nearly 100,000 bulbs light up the palace. The effect is truly magical, making it one of the most memorable experiences to include in your Karnataka itinerary.
Belur and Halebidu have intricate Hoysala carvings that deserve slow appreciation. Hiring a guide for a walking tour through these temples means you won't miss the fine details. You can see the stories carved into stone that took artisans decades to complete.
Pattadakal UNESCO Temple Complex walk gives you access to temples from different periods, showing the evolution of Indian temple architecture. Visit to Pattadakal is often combined with Hampi and other historical sites.
Virupaksha Temple in Hampi hosts evening pujas (prayers) with chanting and rituals. Attending this is a way to experience the sacred dimension of these historical sites beyond just the architecture.
Whenever there is a special occasion, the deities here are decorated beautifully and placed in palki(palanquin) and are given a tour in the temple vicinity. That is again a different type of experience. Include this in your Hampi Badami package.
Coorg is India's top coffee-producing district, and a walk through coffee estates is part of any complete Coorg experience. You'll see how Arabica and Robusta plants differ, learn about harvesting seasons (October-February for most estates), and often get to taste freshly brewed coffee right there. Some estates have homestays, which means you may literally live in the coffee landscape. The Coorg Mysore tour package combines the best of both the locations.
Chikmagalur has similar plantation experiences. The difference here is that Chikmagalur also grows a lot of cardamom, and you can sometimes see both crops on the same estates. Harvesting season (October-February) is the best time to visit because you'll see active harvesting and processing. The place offers brewing demos where you learn to make filter kaapi the traditional way.
The Chikmagalur Coorg package can help you explore both of these places and understand the difference quite beautifully.

This is the best time to visit Karnataka. During these months you will get cool weather, and green landscapes which are perfect for safaris. You can also have the best beach time during these months. Everything works well. Book in advance, if you are traveling this season.
During these months you will see Karnataka to be the greenest. Western Ghats would be in full bloom, waterfalls powerful, and food would be exceptional. Roads can be tricky and wildlife safaris harder. This is also the time when there are fewer tourists, which means there would be lower prices, and a more authentic feel.
This is the period when it is hot across most of Karnataka. High-altitude areas like Chikmagalur stay pleasant. Low season means budget deals if you can handle the heat. Wildlife spotting is difficult during this time.
The biggest festival in Karnataka, Mysore Dasara happens in September-October and lasts 10 days. The city comes alive with processions, cultural programs. The Mysore Palace is lit up beautifully at night during this period. The Vijayadashami day features the famous Jamboo Savari (elephant procession). If you're visiting during Dasara, expect crowds and plan accordingly. Hotels fill up months in advance.
Held around November, Hampi Utsav celebrates the victory of Vijayanagar Empire. Classical music and dance performances happen across the ruins, turning the ancient site into a living venue. The festival lasts 4-5 days and draws artists and music enthusiasts from all over India. If you're a culture lover, time your trip around this.
This is a traditional buffalo race held in North Karnataka (Shimoga and Mysore districts) between October and November. Farmers race their buffaloes in muddy fields, and the event is as much about community celebration as sport. It's a uniquely Karnataka experience and increasingly popular with tourists wanting to see local traditions. The event is best experienced with local guides who can explain the nuances.
Ugadi is the Telugu and Kannada New Year (around March-April) and is celebrated with traditional food, prayers, and family gatherings. If you're visiting Karnataka during this time, you might catch celebrations in local communities. Many restaurants and homes prepare the traditional Ugadi Pachadi (a mix of flavors symbolizing life's variety).
Held at Melkote during May-June, Vairamudi is a 13-day festival where a precious diamond-studded crown is placed on the deity's head. Tens of thousands of devotees attend, making it a major pilgrimage event. The town fills up, but the spiritual energy is palpable.
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is the main airport which has more than 50+ domestic connections. If you are going for a coastal trip, choose Mangalore Airport.
For a comfortable and scenic journey via railways, choose Bangalore City. It is the major junction connecting to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Mysore, Hubli (for Hampi), Mangalore, and Hassan (for Belur-Halebidu) are well-connected.
NH-275 connects Bangalore to Mysore (3 hours). NH-75 connects Bangalore to Mangalore (7 hours) via Western Ghats. Hampi is 350km from Bangalore (6.5 hours).
Karnataka hosts scrumptious food options. Here is the list of food that you have to eat while on your holiday trip to Karnataka-
You're not booking a fixed package. You're telling us what you want, and we build the itinerary around it. Want to skip Hampi and add more time in Coorg? Done. Want a longer wildlife safari? We extend it. This flexibility is the core of what we offer, and it's the reason most travelers choose customized Karnataka packages with us.
We don't pick hotels from a list. We actually stay at them, experience the service, check the rooms, and eat at their restaurants. Then we decide if they're good enough for you. It's the only way to know if a place matches what you're looking for.
No shared buses or fixed departure times. Your customized Karnataka trips includes private cab transfers with experienced drivers who know the routes and can offer local insights. You travel at your pace, stop where you want, and don't compromise on comfort. This is the freedom that customized travel offers.
Your wish is our command when you are choosing customised Karnataka trips. Planning your wildlife safari at the right time of day (dawn and dusk for best sightings) to arranging a guide for the intricate carvings at Belur to organizing a coffee estate walk that includes brewing, we literally take care of everything. We personalise it in such a way that you get what you need without having any confusion.
Once you're on your trip, we're a phone call away. If you need to rearrange something, if you have questions about where to eat, if the weather changes your plans, there's someone available to help. This support is especially valuable in places where things don't always run like clockwork.
