This Leh Ladakh Bike Trip from Srinagar is a full-circuit adventure covering Ladakh’s most iconic and offbeat locations including Pangong, Nubra, Hanle, Umling La, and Tso Moriri.
Designed for riders who want to experience Ladakh beyond the usual tourist route, this itinerary offers the perfect blend of thrill, culture, and raw Himalayan landscapes.
This is not just a bike road trip; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime expedition through the Land of High Passes, designed for riders who want to experience Ladakh beyond the usual tourist circuit.
Starting this Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar offers a more gradual altitude gain compared to the Manali route, making the journey smoother and more comfortable for riders.
The Srinagar–Leh highway is also known for its scenery, mountain passes, and historical landmarks, making it one of the most rewarding routes to enter Ladakh.
From gliding over Dal Lake to conquering Zoji La, the adventure begins right from Day 1.
This Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar begins with a magical evening on Dal Lake, where you spend the night on a traditional houseboat and soak in the calm beauty of Kashmir before the adventure begins.
The next day, we ride through the Zoji La Pass, one of the most thrilling mountain passes on the Srinagar–Leh highway, to reach Kargil.
With every turn, the landscapes shift dramatically—snow-capped peaks, rugged cliffs, and endless valleys that make you realize why Ladakh is a dream for bikers.
Situated on the banks of the Suru River, Kargil holds immense historical significance as the site of the 1999 Kargil War.
After spending the night here, we continue our journey towards Leh, riding through high passes like Namika La and Fotu La.
Along the way, we also pass through the Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest gompas in Ladakh, and witness the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus Rivers at Sangam, where two rivers meet in strikingly different shades of blue and brown.
The Srinagar–Leh route is filled with attractions that define Ladakh travel culture.
From Gurudwara Patthar Sahib to the famous Magnetic Hill, which continues to amaze travelers, every stop adds depth to the journey. We also visit the Hall of Fame Museum, a tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives protecting the nation—an emotional reminder of the sacrifices that echo through these mountains.
Finally, we reach the heart of Ladakh—Leh, where vibrant markets, warm locals, and a rich cultural atmosphere welcome you with open arms. A local sightseeing tour of Leh is one of the highlights of this Leh Ladakh bike road trip and includes some of the most culturally significant landmarks.
We visit Shey Palace, home to one of Ladakh’s largest Buddha statues, followed by the Thiksey Monastery, perched above the Indus Valley. The day ends at the iconic Shanti Stupa, where panoramic views of Leh at sunset create a moment you’ll remember for a lifetime.
But Ladakh is not just about Leh—it is about the thrill of the journey beyond it.
Next, we head to the Nubra Valley, riding through the world-famous Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes on Earth. Nubra landscapes feel unreal—sand dunes in the middle of the Himalayas, double-hump Bactrian camels, and wide open valleys that leave you awestruck.
After Nubra, the next major highlight of this Leh Ladakh bike tour package is the Pangong Tso, a lake so surreal that it changes colors with the movement of the sun. Camping beside Pangong under starry skies is an experience that cannot be captured in words—it can only be felt.
From Pangong, the journey becomes even more offbeat as we ride deeper into Ladakh untouched beauty towards Hanle, India’s first Dark Sky Reserve and home to one of the highest astronomical observatories in the world.
The route takes us through the landscapes of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary, where sightings of rare wildlife like Kiangs, Himalayan Red Foxes, and unique bird species are possible.
Hanle is a paradise for stargazers and photographers, and the night skies here feel like a dream painted with millions of stars.
The next day is the most extraordinary part of this adventure—an excursion to Umling La, stands at around 19,000+ ft, commonly cited as 19,024 ft (5,798 m) — making it one of the highest motorable passes on Earth and a legendary challenge for adventure riders across the globe.
While newer routes like Mig La Pass (19,400 ft) have now surpassed it in altitude, Umling La remains an iconic highlight of Ladakh bike itineraries.
Riding to Umling La is not just about reaching the summit; it is about conquering a challenge that only a few travelers in the world get to experience.
After returning to Hanle, we continue towards the lesser-explored gem of Ladakh—Tso Moriri Lake.
Tso Moriri is quieter, more secluded, and surrounded by untouched natural beauty. As part of the Ramsar Wildlife Sanctuary, it is home to Himalayan marmots, migratory birds like the black-necked crane, and breathtaking landscapes that feel completely untouched by time.
From here, we begin our return journey via Puga Valley, famous for its hot water springs, and make a stop at the Tso Kar Lake, known for its salt deposits and wide-open views of the Rupshu Valley.
We then ride across the iconic More Plains, cross high passes like Nakee La and Lachung La, and reach Sarchu—one of the most scenic overnight stops for Ladakh riders.
The next morning, it’s time to bid farewell to Ladakh as we head towards Manali via Baralacha La and the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel.
After reaching Manali, we spend the night reliving the memories of the journey, and by evening, we board the bus to Delhi to complete this epic circuit.
This brings us to the end of the Hanle–Umling La Leh Ladakh Bike Trip from Srinagar—a full-circuit adventure crafted for those who crave the extraordinary.
Ladakh is not just a destination; it is an emotion that stays with you long after the ride ends. So pack your bags, put on your helmet, and get ready to experience the ultimate Ladakh biking expedition.

Yes, starting your Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar is generally considered better for acclimatization because the altitude gain is more gradual compared to the Manali route. This helps your body adjust better before reaching higher regions like Leh, Nubra, Pangong, Hanle, and Umling La.
The highest point covered in this itinerary is Umling La Pass, which is approximately 19,024 ft. This is one of the highest motorable roads in the world, and riding here is a major highlight of the full-circuit Ladakh route
Yes, Inner Line Permits are included in this package. Since Hanle and certain remote routes fall under restricted regions, permits are mandatory for travel. JustWravel arranges the permits as per the itinerary, and travelers are required to share valid ID details for processing.
Yes, fuel is included for riders opting for rented bikes. As per the package inclusions, bike rent and fuel are covered from Srinagar to Sarchu. This is an important advantage because fuel planning becomes critical on long Ladakh circuits.
Mobile connectivity in Ladakh is limited in remote areas. In places like Leh town, network is generally available, but at Pangong Lake, Hanle, and other Changthang regions, network coverage can be weak or completely unavailable.
We recommend carrying offline maps and informing your family beforehand that you may not be reachable at all times.
Umling La is usually accessible during the summer riding season (May to September), but the final accessibility depends completely on weather conditions, road clearance, and local administrative permissions.
Even during peak season, nights in Ladakh can get extremely cold, especially in places like Pangong Lake, Hanle, Tso Moriri, and Sarchu. Temperatures drop sharply after sunset due to high altitude and open terrain. Proper thermal layers, gloves, and windproof jackets are strongly recommended for comfort.
This trip is planned as a moderate to challenging full-circuit Ladakh expedition, so it is best suited for riders who have basic riding experience and are comfortable with long-distance travel.
Beginners can still join, but they should be confident about riding in mountains and prepared for high altitude and remote stretches like Hanle and Umling La.
Yes, you can join the trip with your own bike. We have a separate pricing option for riders bringing their own motorcycles. However, we recommend ensuring your bike is in excellent condition before the trip.
Yes, riding gear is included for bike riders. The package includes essentials such as helmet, Level 2 riding jacket, riding gloves, knee guards, and elbow guards. However, for comfort and perfect fitting, we recommend carrying your own riding gear whenever possible.
Yes, this trip includes mechanical support, backup assistance, and spare parts support as part of the inclusions. Since this is a long circuit route covering remote regions, we ensure necessary on-ground support is available so that the ride remains safe and manageable for the group.
We provide essential safety arrangements such as first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, and an oximeter. Since the route includes very high-altitude destinations like Umling La and Hanle, this support becomes extremely important. Travelers are also advised to carry their personal medicines as per their health needs.
Travelers are required to carry a valid government ID proof such as Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID. These documents are also needed for permit processing. It is recommended to keep both physical and digital copies of your ID during the trip.
No, airport pickup and drop are not included from Srinagar and Delhi. Travelers need to arrange their own transportation to the reporting point in Srinagar and from Delhi after trip completion.
A refundable security deposit of ₹5,000 per motorbike is applicable as per the deposit policy. The refund is processed after the trip if there is no damage or spare part usage, and is usually credited within 7–10 working days after completing the required formalities.
If the bike gets damaged while it is in the rider’s possession, the cost of spare parts used due to accidental damage is not included. Additionally, towing charges or transfer costs in case the bike is dropped are also excluded. Riders are advised to ride carefully and follow convoy discipline.
Ladakh is prone to unpredictable weather and roadblocks. In such cases, the itinerary may be adjusted based on safety and accessibility. Any extra accommodation or food costs due to delays are not included, as mentioned in the exclusions.
Yes, this trip is safe for solo travelers as it operates in a group format with trip leads and support staff. Many solo travelers join Ladakh circuits to experience the journey with a like-minded group while still enjoying personal freedom.
This bike trip is a full-circuit biking expedition covering Ladakh most iconic destinations along with its most offbeat highlights like Hanle, Umling La, and Tso Moriri.
Starting from Srinagar and ending in Delhi (via Manali), this bike trip itinerary is designed for riders who want the complete Ladakh circuit experience in one single trip.
This biking expedition from Srinagar follows a full-circuit route that covers both the classic Ladakh highlights and the most offbeat regions that most itineraries skip.
The journey starts from Srinagar, gradually enters Ladakh through Kargil and Leh, and then moves deeper into remote landscapes like Hanle, Umling La, and Tso Moriri before exiting via Manali and ending in Delhi.
Route We Follow:
Srinagar → Kargil → Leh → Nubra → Pangong → Hanle → Umling La → Tso Moriri → Sarchu → Manali → Delhi
What makes this route the complete Ladakh circuit is that it doesn’t stop at Nubra and Pangong like regular Ladakh bike trips. Instead, it continues into the Changthang region, covering Hanle dark skies, the extreme altitude ride to Umling La, and the peaceful beauty of Tso Moriri, giving you the most complete and adventurous Ladakh biking experience possible.
This Srinagar to Delhi Ladakh bike circuit is packed with the kind of experiences that make Ladakh one of the most legendary biking destinations in the world.
From iconic high passes and breathtaking lakes to offbeat villages and extreme-altitude roads, this itinerary is designed to give you the complete Ladakh circuit in one epic ride.
This itinerary is a perfect mix of Ladakh most famous attractions and its most remote adventures, making it one of the most complete biking circuits you can experience in India.
Here are the key destinations you will explore during the trip:
One of the biggest reasons Ladakh is called the Land of High Passes is because every route feels like a new achievement.
This bike trip is packed with legendary mountain passes that make the journey challenging, scenic, and unforgettable for every rider. Here are the major high passes covered during the circuit:
This combination of passes makes the itinerary a true full-circuit Ladakh biking expedition.
This Ladakh bike trip is not just about riding — it’s about gathering unforgettable experiences across culture, nature, adventure, and local life. From extreme high-altitude rides to serene lakeshores, here are the best things you can enjoy during this full-circuit Ladakh bike expedition:
Hanle is one of India’s most remote inhabited places with extremely clear skies — perfect for stargazing and astro-photography lovers. The minimal light pollution lets you soak in views of the Milky Way and stars like nowhere else on the route.
At the Hunder Sand Dunes, enjoy optional activities like camel rides on double-humped Bactrian camels or thrilling ATV rides on the cold desert terrain — a unique stop on the Ladakh circuit.
Explore iconic Ladakh heritage like Diskit Monastery & Giant Buddha Statue in Nubra, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and Hall of Fame Museum in Leh. These offer cultural insights and picturesque views amid your bike journey.
Leh’s market is a great place to shop for souvenirs, traditional handicrafts, dry fruits, and Ladakhi keepsakes. Relax at local cafés between rides for hot drinks and local snacks — great for rest and photography.
On the route to Hanle and Tso Moriri, you’ll pass through scenic settlements like Chushul, Nyoma and Loma Village, as well as the vast Changthang Plateau — ideal for landscape photography and roadside breaks.
Spend peaceful evenings by the shores of Pangong and Tso Moriri — sit back, watch the reflected mountain views, or simply enjoy the calm ambience after long day rides.
In stretches like Nubra and around Tso Moriri, short nature walks to nearby viewpoints and lakesides add another layer of adventure — perfect for stretching legs and capturing dramatic vantage points.
These activities combine thrill, culture, natural beauty and local experiences, making your Ladakh bike expedition truly memorable. From legendary passes and serene lakes to cultural heritage and remote dark skies — every stop offers a different slice of Ladak rugged charm.
Most Ladakh bike trips usually follow the standard circuit—Leh, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Lake—and then return back the same way. While that route is iconic, it only shows you the popular side of Ladakh.
This Ladakh circuit ride via Hanle & Tso Moriri is different because it takes you deeper into Ladakh’s most remote and unexplored regions, making it a true full-circuit expedition.
Hanle is famous for its surreal landscapes and stargazing skies, while the ride to Umling La adds a once-in-a-lifetime high-altitude achievement to the journey. Tso Moriri, on the other hand, offers a quieter and more untouched lake experience compared to Pangong, making the trip feel more offbeat and exclusive.
This full-circuit route is ideal those who want to experience the real Ladakh—long scenic stretches, high passes, remote villages, extreme altitude riding, and landscapes that feel completely untouched by the outside world.
This offbeat Ladakh biking route is best described as a moderate to challenging adventure. While the initial route is comparatively smoother and ideal for acclimatization, the trip gradually becomes more demanding as you enter Ladakh remote regions.
The combination of long riding hours, unpredictable terrain, high-altitude conditions, and remote roads makes this bike trip itinerary perfect for those looking for a true full-circuit biking expedition.
The Srinagar–Leh highway is considered one of the best routes to enter Ladakh, mainly because the altitude gain is gradual. The roads are mostly well-laid with a few rough patches near mountain passes.
The ride includes thrilling stretches around Zoji La, where conditions can vary depending on weather and traffic.
The route from Leh to Nubra Valley is scenic and adventurous, especially while crossing Khardung La Pass. Roads are generally good, but you may encounter uneven surfaces and broken patches near the pass. The ride is manageable but requires careful handling due to high altitude and sharp turns.
This stretch includes a mix of smooth roads and off-road sections depending on the route conditions. The terrain becomes more rugged compared to the Srinagar-Leh highway, and the ride can feel longer due to high altitude and continuous mountain landscapes.
This is where the journey starts becoming truly offbeat. The Pangong–Hanle route passes through remote areas with limited settlements. Road conditions can be unpredictable, and the terrain feels more raw and isolated.
This stretch is more about endurance, focus, and enjoying Ladakh untouched beauty.
The Umling La excursion day is the most challenging part of the trip. The roads are high-altitude, remote, and exposed to harsh weather conditions. Since Umling La sits at around 19,024 ft, riders may experience breathlessness, fatigue, and extreme cold winds.
This ride is less about speed and more about controlled riding, patience, and stamina.
The Tso Moriri to Sarchu stretch is a long travel day with vast open landscapes, high passes, and minimal facilities in between. Riders should be prepared for long hours on the road.
The scenery is stunning, but the distance and altitude make this day physically demanding.
This trip is ideal for:
This itinerary may not be suitable for travelers who are not comfortable with cold weather, long travel hours, or remote high-altitude regions.
Weather in Ladakh can be unpredictable, especially on a full-circuit route like this. Even during peak season, temperatures can vary drastically depending on altitude, location, and time of day.
Since this biking adventure includes high-altitude regions like Pangong, Hanle, Tso Moriri, Umling La, and Sarchu, being prepared for sudden weather changes is extremely important.
During the day, places like Leh may feel comfortable, but once the sun sets, temperatures drop quickly. Locations like Pangong Lake, Hanle, Tso Moriri, and Sarchu are much colder at night due to their elevation and open landscapes.
Riders should be mentally prepared for chilly mornings and cold nights even in summer months.
Umling La is one of the highest points of the entire trip, and strong winds are common in this region. Even if the sun is out, wind chill can make it feel extremely cold.
Similarly, Sarchu is known for cold winds and freezing nights, making warm layers and proper riding gear essential.
Although Ladakh is a cold desert, rainfall can still occur, especially in July and August. Rain can lead to slippery roads, landslides, or temporary roadblocks on certain stretches.
Since this is a long circuit covering remote regions, minor route changes may be required depending on weather and road conditions.
Instead of relying on one heavy jacket, layering is the best way to handle Ladakh weather.
The temperature can change multiple times in a single day—warm afternoons, cold winds during passes, and freezing nights. Thermal wear, fleece layers, windproof outer jackets, and waterproof protection help riders stay comfortable throughout the journey.
This trip becomes much easier when you’re dressed right—because in Ladakh, weather can change faster than the road itself.
The best time to plan this high-altitude Ladakh road trip is between late May and September, when the roads are open and the weather is most suitable for long-distance high-altitude riding.
Since this itinerary includes remote regions, choosing the right season plays a major role in overall comfort and safety.
This is one of the most beautiful times to experience Ladakh. Roads usually open up after winter closures, and you can still witness snow walls near major passes.
The weather is pleasant during the day, and the landscapes feel fresh and dramatic—perfect for riders who want the classic Ladakh vibe.
July and August offer relatively stable road connectivity across Ladakh, making it one of the most preferred windows for full-circuit biking trips.
This is also the busiest season, with maximum tourist activity in Leh, Nubra, and Pangong. Riders who want a smoother travel flow and better access to facilities usually prefer this time.
September is a favorite month for photographers and serious travelers. The skies are usually clearer, the crowds start reducing, and the landscapes look sharp and vibrant.
Nights can be colder, but the overall riding experience feels more peaceful and premium.
Altitude is one of the most important factors to understand before starting a Leh Ladakh full circuit bike trip, especially because this itinerary covers extreme high-altitude regions. Proper acclimatization is the key to enjoying the trip safely and comfortably.
One of the biggest advantages of starting your Ladakh bike trip from Srinagar is the gradual altitude gain.
Unlike the Manali route, which climbs rapidly and can feel harsh on the body, the Srinagar–Leh highway gives your body more time to adjust naturally as you move towards higher altitudes step by step.
This makes the Srinagar route a preferred choice for riders who want a smoother start to their full-circuit Ladakh biking adventure journey.
Since Ladakh is a high-altitude cold desert, some travelers may experience AMS symptoms, especially after reaching Leh or during the later part of the circuit. Common symptoms include:
If symptoms feel severe or worsen, it is important to inform the trip lead immediately.
The best way to prevent AMS is to let your body adapt naturally. A few simple habits can make a big difference:
At high altitude place like Ladakh, dehydration is a real challenge because it often sneaks up on you before you even feel thirsty.
To stay healthy and enjoy your trip, it is essential to drink water regularly throughout the day, keep ORS or electrolytes handy, and ensure you are getting enough sleep without overexerting yourself.
Additionally, you should avoid skipping meals, as staying well-hydrated, properly nourished, and rested is the simplest way to prevent health issues and make the most of your journey
Acclimatization is not optional in Ladakh—it is the foundation of a safe and memorable bike trip. To ensure your body adjusts to the high altitude, follow these essential guidelines during your first two days:
Do’s:
Don’ts:
Umling La isn't just another pass on the map; it’s the highest point of the entire Srinagar-to-Delhi circuit and, honestly, the ultimate test for any rider. Standing at 19,024 feet, you are literally higher than the Everest Base Camp.
While there’s talk of newer routes like Mig La (19,400 ft) taking the record, Umling La remains at the top for most adventure enthusiasts because of its raw, remote energy.
At this height, the air is thin—really thin. Oxygen levels drop by almost half, and your body will feel it. Whether it's a slight tightness in your chest, a nagging headache, or just feeling wiped out after moving a few steps, it’s all part of the experience.
The trick isn't to power through it with speed; it’s about patience. Riding at a steady pace and staying tucked into the convoy isn’t just about discipline—it’s about making sure everyone gets to the top and back down safely.
The weather here plays by its own rules. You can start the climb in bright sunshine and hit bone-chilling winds or a sudden temperature drop ten minutes later.
The road is a mix—some parts are surprisingly smooth, while others are rough, dusty, and remote. There are no cafes or workshops out here; it’s just you, your bike, and the mountain. It feels less like a tourist ride and more like a genuine expedition.
Since the risks are real, we don't take chances. We keep oxygen cylinders, oximeters, and a full medical kit ready in the backup vehicle. Our mechanics are also on standby because engines, just like lungs, struggle in the thin air.
The Bottom Line
Respect the altitude and listen to your Marshal. If you stay hydrated, keep your ego in check, and stay with the group, reaching that 19,024 ft marker will be the proudest moment of your life.
Riding through this Hanle Umling La Ladakh circuit means venturing into some of India’s most remote and sensitive border zones. Because these areas are restricted, specialized permissions are mandatory to pass through the military checkpoints that guard these high-altitude frontiers.
At JustWravel, we believe your focus should be on the horizon, not on paperwork. That’s why Inner Line Permits (ILP) are fully included in your package. Our team handles the entire application process and coordination with local authorities to ensure you have seamless access to restricted regions like Hanle, the Chushul belt, and the legendary Umling La pass.
To make the process effortless, we only require a clear copy of your Government-issued ID (Aadhaar Card, Passport, or Voter ID) well in advance. Once you provide the documents, our on-ground team takes over, ensuring all permits are ready and validated before we hit the road.
Since these routes sit right on the edge of the map, access is always subject to the latest security protocols, weather conditions, and administrative updates. If there is a sudden change in local guidelines, JustWravel experienced on ground team is trained to manage the situation, adjusting the route or permissions in real-time to keep your journey safe and compliant.
The Golden Rule: Always keep your physical ID and the permit copies (provided by us) handy during the ride, as you’ll be passing through several army check-posts where documentation is verified.
This Srinagar-to-Ladakh bike trip is the ultimate adventure, but the reality of the Himalayas is that medical help and repair shops don't exist for hundreds of kilometers.
That is why JustWravel provides a system that follows you from the lush valleys of Kashmir to the high-altitude deserts of Ladakh.
The trip is conducted in a convoy format, led by experienced trip leaders who guide the group throughout the circuit. Riders are expected to follow the instructions of the trip lead and marshal, especially on high passes and challenging stretches, where disciplined riding becomes extremely important.
To handle breakdowns and mechanical issues, the trip includes mechanical support along with essential backup arrangements such as spare parts and support assistance. This ensures that minor bike issues can be handled during the journey without disrupting the entire group.
Since altitude is a major factor in Ladakh, the trip also includes basic safety equipment like oxygen cylinders, first aid kits, and an oximeter, which are crucial while traveling through extreme high-altitude zones like Umling La.
Ladakh terrain is beautiful but unpredictable. We maintain a strict no-over speeding and no-unauthorized-off-roading policy. Staying within the convoy and riding responsibly isn't just a rule—it’s how we ensure every rider makes it to the finish line with a smile and a story to tell.
Srinagar is the starting point of this Ladakh circuit ride via Hanle & Tso Moriri, and it is well-connected to major cities in India through flights and road routes.
To ensure a smooth start, it is recommended to plan your arrival properly and keep a buffer in case of delays.
The easiest and fastest way to reach Srinagar is by flying to Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport (SXR). Srinagar has regular flight connectivity from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, etc. (direct or via Delhi). Once you land, you can book a local taxi to reach Dal Lake.
Srinagar can also be reached by road via Jammu. Travelers can take:
The route is scenic but can be time-consuming depending on weather and traffic conditions.
Srinagar is now part of the operational Jammu–Baramulla rail line, making it easier for those who prefer the tracks over the road.
Note: While the line is operational, we highly recommend checking the latest IRCTC schedules as mountain rail timings can vary.
Himalayan weather and flight/train schedules can be unpredictable. To ensure a smooth start to the expedition, we strongly suggest reaching Srinagar at least 1 day before the trip officially begins. This buffer day helps you settle in and avoids any stress from last-minute travel delays.
The official assembly point for the group is the Dal Lake Ghat at the designated reporting time. To give you the true Kashmiri experience, we have arranged a Shikara to ferry you to your houseboat.
