Next up is Fort Adelaide, which sits high above Port Louis. Built by the British between 1834 and 1840, it was designed to protect the capital from invasions and keep watch over local revolts. In Port Louis, you move from one corner to another, and find something unexpected every time. Glide past through the colourful China Town, the Jummah Mosque, St. Louis Cathedral, the Port Louis Theatre.

Afterwards, visit Aapravasi Ghat. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was the first immigration depot set up by the British Empire after the abolition of slavery in 1834. The day wraps up at Château de Labourdonnais, a 19th-century colonial mansion named after French Governor Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais, the man credited with building Mauritius into a prosperous colony.
