The Meghalaya Tour – Shillong & Cherrapunji Trip (3N/4D) is a thoughtfully designed journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Meghalaya, a state fondly known as the ‘Abode of Clouds.’ This itinerary brings together the serene charm of Shillong, the capital city, and the misty allure of Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. Over four days, travelers can immerse themselves in the state’s pristine natural beauty, cascading waterfalls, lush valleys, mysterious caves, and vibrant cultural heritage. Perfect for families, couples, and nature lovers, the trip balances sightseeing and relaxation, allowing you to truly experience the magic of Northeast India.
Your adventure begins with your arrival in Guwahati, the gateway to the Northeast. From here, you embark on a scenic drive of about 100 kilometers to Shillong, popularly called the ‘Scotland of the East.’ The journey itself is a treat, winding through verdant hills and charming landscapes. En route, stop at Umiam Lake, a vast and placid waterbody surrounded by rolling green hills. This beautiful spot is ideal for photography and soaking in the tranquility of Meghalaya’s countryside. Another highlight on the way is the Kamakhya Devi Temple, one of India’s most revered Shakti Peethas, perched atop the Nilachal Hill. This temple, steeped in legends and spiritual significance, provides a sacred start to your trip. By the time you reach Shillong, you’ll be surrounded by the fresh mountain air and colonial charm of the city. After checking in at your hotel, you can unwind and enjoy the pleasant climate before resting for the night.
The next phase of the journey takes you from Shillong to Cherrapunji (4,400 ft.), a destination synonymous with misty clouds, abundant rainfall, and lush green vistas. The drive to Cherrapunji is dotted with some of Meghalaya’s most famous sights. Visit the picturesque Elephant Falls, a cascading waterfall framed by dense forests, and then head to Shillong Peak to admire panoramic views of the city and its rolling hills. As you reach Cherrapunji, you’ll be greeted by some of nature’s grandest spectacles: the awe-inspiring Nohkalikai Waterfall, plunging from dramatic cliffs into a turquoise pool, and the enchanting Seven Sisters Waterfalls, a series of seven streams cascading side by side. For those who love adventure, the Arwah and Mawsmai Caves offer an intriguing experience with their limestone formations and hidden chambers. A stop at the Cherrapunji Viewpoint lets you take in sweeping vistas of the mist-covered valleys before heading to your hotel. Later, visit the David Scott Memorial Stone, a historical Ashlar stone pillar that commemorates one of the region’s early explorers.
As you return to Shillong, the journey continues to delight with more scenic wonders. Begin with a visit to the Rainbow Falls, known for its mesmerizing play of colors as sunlight refracts through the misty spray. En route back, stop at Mawkdok Dympep Valley, a stunning green canyon that offers spectacular photo opportunities, and the charming Wah Kaba Falls, another beautiful cascade. Once back in Shillong, settle into your hotel and then head out to explore the city’s attractions. Visit the Shillong View Point for breathtaking vistas of the town and surrounding hills, the Don Bosco Museum to discover the rich culture and heritage of Northeast India, and the serene Ward’s Lake, a favorite spot for leisurely walks and paddle boating.
The trip concludes with a return drive to Guwahati, but not before one last enriching experience at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. This cultural complex showcases Assam’s history, art, and traditions through exhibitions, performances, and a fascinating light-and-sound show, offering a memorable glimpse into the region’s heritage. From here, you continue to Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, taking with you cherished memories of misty hills, roaring waterfalls, sacred temples, and the warm hospitality of Meghalaya.
This Meghalaya Tour – Shillong & Cherrapunji Trip (3N/4D) is more than just a holiday. It’s an immersion into the natural beauty and cultural richness of one of India’s most enchanting states. Whether it’s gazing at pristine waterfalls, exploring ancient caves, admiring vast valleys, or soaking in the atmosphere of hilltop viewpoints, every experience on this tour is designed to inspire and rejuvenate.

The best month to visit Cherrapunji is October, marking the start of the ideal October to May window for sightseeing, trekking, and exploring natural wonders like waterfalls and living root bridges. The weather is pleasant, skies are clear, and rainfall is minimal, making outdoor activities enjoyable and safe. Avoid May, when heavy showers peak, reducing accessibility to attractions and trails in the region.
Shillong is best visited between March and June when the weather is pleasantly cool and hosts lush greenery, ideal for sightseeing and adventure activities. Alternatively, September to November offers breezy autumn days and festive celebrations. Winter from December to February brings foggy, quiet landscapes and chilly nights. Avoid the monsoon months (July to September), which see heavy rainfall and limited outdoor activity.
Cherrapunji is famous for being one of the wettest places on Earth, renowned for its record-breaking rainfall and dramatic monsoon landscapes. The region captivates visitors with lush green hills, spectacular waterfalls, and the unique living root bridges—ingenious structures woven from tree roots. Cherrapunji’s misty cliffs, deep caves, and panoramic vistas highlight Meghalaya’s wild, untouched beauty, drawing nature lovers and adventure seekers worldwide.
Jadoh is Meghalaya’s iconic dish, made of red rice cooked with pork or chicken and aromatic spices. Other famous local foods include Dohneiiong (pork with black sesame), Tungrymbai (fermented soybeans), and Nakham Bitchi (savory dried fish soup). Khasi cuisine emphasizes earthy flavors and local herbs. Bamboo shoot treats, spicy chutneys, and wild forest honey pair well with staple rice dishes, defining Meghalaya’s food scene.
