Overview

“Heaven is a myth, but Ladakh is the truth for you!”

If you have ever dreamt of riding through the heart of the Himalayas, conquering mountain passes, and chasing sunsets across salt lakes and starlit skies, this Ladakh Bike Trip from Delhi is tailor-made for you. This is an expedition that brings you the best of the Delhi to Leh bike tour—riding past mighty rivers, pristine valleys, and some of the highest motorable roads in the world. The journey kicks off with an overnight journey from Delhi to Manali by Tempo Traveler, where you meet your fellow riders and trip captains. From Manali, we begin our much-awaited bike trip to Ladakh, crossing the awe-inspiring Atal Tunnel, and riding through the scenic beauty of Sissu Valley and Keylong, finally reaching the peaceful village of Jispa—your first taste of the majestic Himalayas.

From Jispa, the ride to Leh is where the adventure truly begins. Along the Manali-Leh Highway, we pass through legendary mountain passes like Baralacha La, Nakee La, Lachung La, and Tanglang La. The ever-changing scenery includes mesmerizing alpine lakes like Deepak Tal and Suraj Tal, the thrilling Gata Loops with its 21 hairpin bends, and the iconic More Plains, offering a once-in-a-lifetime Leh bike tour experience.

After a much-needed rest in Leh, the group explores Sham Valley and local landmarks like Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, Hall of Fame, Sangam (Zanskar and Indus Confluence), and Shanti Stupa. This Leh Ladakh bike trip isn't just about adventure—it’s also a deep dive into the history, culture, and spirit of Ladakh.

We then head to the breathtaking Nubra Valley via Khardung La (18,380 ft)—once the highest motorable road in the world. The cold desert of Hunder awaits with its double-humped Bactrian camels, ATV rides, and stargazing under clear skies.

Next, we make our way to the iconic Pangong Lake, the sparkling blue saltwater lake that featured in Bollywood movies like 3 Idiots. En route, we stop at the majestic Diskit Monastery, known for its towering Buddha statue. From the shores of Pangong, the ride continues deeper into the Changthang Plateau, reaching Hanle, a peaceful hamlet on the Old Silk Route and home to India’s highest astronomical observatory.

But no Ladakh bike expedition is complete without a ride to Umling La Pass (19,024 ft)—the world’s highest motorable road. Riding to Umling La is not just about reaching the top; it’s a spiritual high, surrounded by untouched wilderness and cinematic landscapes.

We then ride back to Leh via Chumathang village, known for its therapeutic hot springs, with additional stops at Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery, soaking in the heritage of Ladakh one last time. After a final day exploring Leh’s local markets and cafes, we start our return journey via Sarchu, a rugged Himalayan outpost that tests your adventure mettle one last time. From Sarchu to Manali, the landscapes become even more cinematic. We traverse Gata Loops, Baralacha La, and the Atal Tunnel once again before reaching Manali. After a laid-back evening exploring the town, we board the overnight vehicle back to Delhi, ending this unforgettable Delhi to Delhi Ladakh road trip with a heart full of stories.

Things To Pack

When you head towards the summit, you are required to carry only a few necessary items and for that, you need a day backpack as you will leave your bigger one on the campsite.

Hiking-Shoes.png

Hiking Shoes :

Durable footwear designed for rugged terrains.

Floaters.png

Floaters or Sandals:

Although the entire trek requires a good quality shoe, you still need to let your feet breathe to avoid chafing and blisters. When you are at the camp, a good pair of sandals and floaters will help you to move freely.

Tees.png

Tees / Tshirts:

You must keep at least three pairs of quick dry tees so that you can wash them in between stops for proper hygiene.

Poncho.png

Poncho:

A poncho is an evolved form of a raincoat that provides coverage to your body as well as your bag and ensures total water protection from rain.

Towel.png

Quick Dry Towel:

A quick dry towel will help in maintaining proper hygiene. It must dry quickly because the wet fabric will only increase the chance of bacterial growth.

Sanitizer.png

Sanitizer:

Essential for maintaining cleanliness while trekking.

Sun-Cap.png

Sun Cap / Hat:

A lightweight sun cap with side flaps is perfect to keep your head cool and avoid sunburns on a sunny day.

A good pair of track pants made of polyester will let your skin breathe. They’re lightweight, dry easily, and comfortable to walk around in. You can easily avoid chafing and rashes by investing in a good pair of track pants.

Hiking-Shoes.png

Trekking Shoes:

A good trekking shoe is comfortable, provides ankle support, and has a good grip as well. They shouldn’t be chunky, instead, they should be lightweight and sturdy.

Socks.png

Cotton Socks:

Cotton socks are extremely comfortable to move around in and are lightweight as well which is why you can always count on a good pair of cotton socks while trekking. However, keep in mind to change them and avoid wearing them when they are wet.

Woolen-Socks.png

Woolen Socks:

A good pair of woolen socks, especially merino, are comfortable, limit odors and provide adequate insulation from the cold so you can wear them at night.

Gloves.png

Woolen Gloves:

Insulated gloves help in maintaining proper body heat in your hands and also provide a better grasp on trekking poles.

Jacket.png

Main Jacket:

It’s emphasized that you need to carry proper layers so you can avoid getting cold which is why you need to carry a heavy jacket that you can put on over your other clothes.

Woolen-Cap.png

You can’t rely on moonlight when you are in the mountains. A torch or even a headlamp with a fresh pair of batteries is always a good idea to bring along.

I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends. JustWravel had everything sorted for us be it transportation, safety, constant checkups, personalised care , accommodation, food and everything was super comfortable and amazing. Then it comes to the best part of this trip our trip captains - Abhishek and Ramneek He treated us like their own brother from day one and made sure all of us are having the time of our lives. They had constant checkups to ensure all of us are doing great physically. They had good knowledge about the place and shared the same with us as well. I would surely plan my next trip with JustWravel. I would like to mention an instance: I forgot my bag in the Volvo bus and there was nothing important in that bag but our captains still went out of their way to ensure that I got my bag safely.

Thank you JustWravel for giving me one of my best first group-trip experience - All-Girls Spiti Valley trip! I was a bit nervous before the trip began, but within no time, I realised that this was the best decision I took for myself. Saurav was a really friendly and easy-going trip leader and Mani Bhai was the sweetest local guide ever, who drove us around and also developed such a lovely bond with us. Both of them took great care of the group. Felt like family! ?? Lovely stay and food arrangements - never faced an issue even once. Most memorable trip! Thankyou!
