They say it’s not just about the destination—it’s about the journey. And we’ve made sure you don’t just find joy when you arrive, but feel it in every mile along the way.
Our 3 days adventure begins in Delhi, heading first to Shimla, covering 342 km in an overnight journey. From there, the real magic unfolds as you hop into a tempo traveler and ride through Kufri, Narkanda, Rampur, Sangla, and Rakcham, with stunning views of the Karcham Dam and the mighty Sutlej River along the way. It is a journey that beautifully transitions from lively hill station vibes to serene Himalayan wilderness.
Starting at Kufri, travelers experience refreshing mountain air amidst pine-covered hills and sweeping valley views, a lively introduction that gently eases one out of city life.
Moving onward to Narkanda, the atmosphere shifts to tranquil apple orchards and high peaks where panoramic views reward nature lovers and forest walks provide peaceful respite. By the time you reach Rampur, the Sutlej River valleys unfold alongside vibrant markets and temples, showcasing authentic Himachali culture and offering a lively yet relaxing stop for meals and breaks.
As the road winds into the Baspa Valley, Sangla emerges as a gateway to more secluded adventures with its charming wooden houses, Kamru Fort’s historic allure, and a palpable Kinnauri cultural essence among green meadows and mountain peaks.
Close by, Rakcham enchants with natural beauty and preserved traditions, where ancient temples and Buddhist shrines echo the region’s spiritual fabric. This progression culminates in Chitkul. After covering a distance of 225 km in nine hours of soul-stirring landscapes, you’ll arrive in Chitkul Village—where stillness greets you with open arms. The entire road trip is a seamless blend of diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and peaceful retreats, making it a captivating experience at every turn.
In Chitkul, we’ll first visit The ISBT Camp, also known as Baspa Valley Adventure Camp located in Rakchham of Baspa Valley, which provides an immersive experience with its idyllic location on the banks of the Baspa River surrounded by towering snow-clad mountains.
Visiting Baspa Valley leaves visitors with a profound sense of peace and awe, deeply rooted in the untouched natural beauty of the region. The air is extraordinarily fresh and pure, contributing to a feeling of revitalization and calm. Walking along the riverside you will feel a magical stillness, where the sounds of flowing water, chirping birds, and gentle mountain breezes create an immersive sensory experience.
Then, we would pay reverence at the Kagyupa Temple, which is an ancient and spiritually significant Buddhist monastery dedicated to Shakyamuni Buddha. It holds a beautifully preserved idol of the Buddha and features intricate carvings, including the four Directional Kings depicted on the temple doors, symbolizing protection from all sides. By visiting this temple offers an ambiance where one can absorb the local religious traditions and admire traditional Himalayan Buddhist architecture.
Our next stop would be at Hindustan Ka Aakhri Dhaba. This famous eatery is celebrated for serving authentic Himachali flavors in a rustic, no-frills setting. Here, travelers can indulge in traditional dishes such as Siddu, Madra, and other local delicacies prepared using fresh regional ingredients, providing a delicious insight into the culinary culture of Kinnaur and Baspa Valley. This dhaba is also renowned for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it a favorite stop for road-trippers seeking genuine, hearty mountain food.
Chitkul, is also renowned for having the cleanest air in India, according to a study by IIT Delhi. So, get ready to breathe in the cleanest air in India. Life in Chitkul is characterized by a slow, peaceful rhythm in harmony with nature, where locals farm high-quality potatoes, apples, and walnuts that thrive in the fertile soil and adaptive climate.
After soaking in the charm of Chitkul, we head back to Shimla. The trip may come to an end, but the memories etched in your heart—they’ll stay for a lifetime.
The best months to visit Chitkul are from May to October, when the weather is pleasant and the roads are accessible. During this period, daytime temperatures typically range from 14°C to 25°C, offering comfortable conditions for sightseeing and trekking. The weather is generally clear with occasional afternoon showers in monsoon months..
