This road trip through the northern state of Himachal Pradesh is a special one. Starting from New Delhi, we’ll be heading to Manali, which is perhaps one of the most loved resort towns of Indians.
While in Manali, we’ll be heading out for some local sightseeing which includes Hadimba Temple and Vashishta Temple. Another place on the cards is Manali Nature Park, which lies next to the banks of Beas River with huge canopies of deodar and cedar trees. It is a perfect place to soak in the natural wonders amidst the Himalayan peaks.
Wait! Don’t get “hangry” as we’ll be taking our tired legs to Old Manali which is famous for its cafes. Some of the famous cafes to check out include Cafe 1947, whose fish and chips are a must have. You can also spend the evening shopping to your heart’s content at Mall Road where you will get authentic souvenirs.
The next day, we’ll be heading off to Sissu waterfalls via the Atal tunnel, which is the world's longest highway tunnel above 10,000fts, located in the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas.
Sissu waterfall is a 50mts high beautiful cascading waterfall, fed by glaciers of the Himalayan range. To reach Sissu Waterfall, you need to put in some effort in a short trek, but the rewards would be amazing, as you will witness one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Himachal Pradesh.
If time permits and we get prior Government approval, we will also go to explore Keylong.
Our next destination would be Naggar, which is an ancient town which is located in the Kullu district on the left bank of the river Beas. Founded by Raja Visudhpal, it remained the political centre until the capital was shifted to Sultanpur in 1460 AD.
Its most famous attraction is a beautiful castle, which has now been converted into a heritage hotel operated by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.
This building was once the residence of the rulers of Kullu, and is an excellent example of western Himalayan architecture. It is made of wood and stone, and has carved doors and windows and stunning artwork. By visiting this place, it will take you back to the olden days where kings and their kingdom flourished before modern times took over.
