Ever dreamed of exploring a snow-covered wonderland where time slows down and the mountains speak in silence? Embark on an unforgettable Spiti winter trip that takes you through snow-draped Himalayan landscapes, remote high-altitude villages, and ancient monasteries nestled in the lap of nature.
This Spiti Winter Tour Package – Shimla to Kaza Road Trip (8N/9D) is crafted for those who seek adventure, solitude, and surreal beauty all in one journey. Your tour begins with an overnight journey from Delhi, slowly ascending into the heart of Himachal via the iconic Hindustan-Tibet Highway.
As you enter the majestic Kinnaur Valley, be prepared to be enchanted by scenic mountain roads, dense pine forests, and dramatic river gorges. Early in the trip, immerse yourself in the rustic charm of Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border, or Sangla, a peaceful valley village surrounded by apple orchards and snow-covered peaks. Continue onwards to Kalpa, a picture-perfect Himalayan town offering panoramic views of the mighty Kinner Kailash. Visit ancient monasteries, explore the narrow village lanes, and witness fiery sunsets behind snow-capped ridges.
As you ascend further into the cold desert, reach the quaint village of Nako, nestled beside a frozen lake and wrapped in a blanket of tranquility. The journey through the trans-Himalayas offers not only breathtaking views but also a glimpse into the resilient local life. From here, the route takes you deeper into the heart of Spiti, finally arriving at Kaza, the cultural and administrative center of the valley. During your stay in Kaza, you’ll get the chance to explore some of the most unique and elevated spots on the planet, visit Tabo Monastery, over 1,000 years old; marvel at Dhankar Monastery and Fort, dramatically perched above the confluence of rivers; and spend a day discovering the high-altitude villages of Komic, Hikkim, and Langza. Send a postcard from the highest post office in the world in Hikkim, cross the awe-inspiring Chicham Bridge, and find serenity at Key Monastery, Spiti’s most iconic spiritual landmark.
The return journey brings its own charm as you drive past frozen waterfalls like Lingti Falls, stop at the Rock Tunnel, also known as the Gateway to Kinnaur, and retrace your route through white-washed landscapes. Each village, monastery, and bend in the road tells a story of resilience, ancient wisdom, and harmony with nature. Though accommodations remain basic due to altitude and temperature, the warmth of the locals and the sense of camaraderie among fellow travelers makes the journey deeply enriching.
As you drive along winding snow-covered roads, sip endless cups of butter tea, and listen to tales from the mountains, you’ll find yourself detached from the rush of everyday life and more connected to nature and yourself. Customize your Winter Spiti trip with JustWravel as per your preference and travel the way you want.
Ideal for thrill-seekers, photography lovers, solo wanderers, and offbeat explorers, this Winter Spiti package is not just a journey through one of India’s most remote regions, it’s a personal expedition into landscapes untouched by time. From icy lakes and prayer-flag-lined passes to fossil-filled fields and spiritual sanctuaries, Spiti in winter invites you to slow down, breathe deeper, and feel truly alive. As you return to Delhi with snow-dusted boots, stilled thoughts, and a heart full of memories.

Chandratal Lake is not open for visitors in December. The approach roads to the lake, including the crucial Kunzum Pass, are closed due to heavy snowfall, cutting off access by vehicle. While a few experienced trekkers may attempt reaching Chandratal, it is a high-risk trek, and staying overnight at the lake is highly discouraged because there are no campsites or facilities available in such extreme winter conditions.
