Your journey begins in Guwahati, the largest city of Assam, located on the banks of Brahmaputra river. Guwahati offers a mix of ancient temples and modern attractions. Guwahati is known for various holy sites such as Kamakhya temple, perched on the Nilachal Hill, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and attracts thousands of devotees. You can also explore the Kalakshetra, a cultural institution that showcases Assam’s rich history through art, dance, and exhibitions. Not only this, you can also take an adventurous yet scenic Brahmaputra river cruise and boost your adrenalish rush.
Then you will proceed your journey and reach the next destination, which is Dirang. It is a small hill station in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, known for its natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes. Explore Dirang monastery (Dirang Gompa), Dirang Dzong, the 150 years old fort, the best place for history buffs. Get enchanted by the rich flora of Dirang, stroll along the kiwi orchards. Moreover, in Dirang you will visit the hot water springs, regional sheep farms, Sangti, and the Yak Research Center. You will be taken to Sangti valley, where you will see a variety of fruits and Mandala Hilltop, the top is famous for birdwatching. Later, you can also explore Lubrang Valley, where you can experience the rural lifestyle of the Monpa tribe.
The journey is not over yet, heading towards the next destination with immense energy and positivity you will drive to Tawang, which is the highlight of this North east trip, as you pass through the Sela pass which is a high altitude pass located at an altitude of 13,700 feet. It offers breathtaking views of eastern Himalayas. You can stop by the Sela lake, which is a beautiful glacial lake that changes color with the sky. The next destination that you will visit with this North east package is Tawang. You will visit Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world.
Another must visit site is the Shonga-tser Lake (Madhuri Lake) a serene lake formed by the earthquakes, then you will take a scenic drive to Bum La Pass, located near the Indo-China border, offering a thrilling experience with stunning views of the rugged terrain. On the way back, you will stop at Heart Lake, PTSO Lake, and Naghula Lake, each offering breathtaking scenery and tranquility. In the evening you will visit the iconic Tawang War Memorial followed by a peaceful stay at Tawang. March to April is the best time to visit North East India as it is the spring season and you will see rhododendrons in full bloom in Arunachal and Sikkim.
If you want to see snow capped mountains and landscapes then you should visit in winter months that is between November to February.
The best for visiting Shillong is from September to May as the weather remains pleasant, ideal for sightseeing.
