Air India Express, a budget airline, has revealed plans to expand its flight services from three key locations in the northeast region – Guwahati, Agartala, and Imphal – as part of its winter timetable. This decision forms a crucial aspect of the airline’s strategy to enhance its winter flight offerings nationwide, as outlined in its recent press release.

Air India Express has expanded its services from Guwahati, now offering 106 flights per week compared to 63 during the previous winter season. The airline offers non-stop flights to eight different cities within India, including Agartala, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, and Kolkata. Additionally, they provide connections to 18 domestic and six international destinations from Guwahati. The airline has increased its weekly flights to Imphal to 34 this season, adding 20 more flights compared to last winter.

Ever since they added Agartala as a station in September 2024, the airline has upped their weekly flights from 14 to 21 and now offers direct flights to Guwahati and Kolkata. It provides seamless connectivity from Agartala to 11 different cities within the country. Ankur Garg, the Chief Commercial Officer, mentioned that the expansion will not only make travel to the North East easier but also enhance Guwahati’s significance as a crucial connection with the rest of the country. He stated that with over 90 aircraft in their fleet and with rapid growth, they are in a strong position to meet the changing demands of developing cities in India.

Under the control of the Tata Group’s aviation branch, Air India Express is adjusting its aircraft fleet to accommodate the rising need. The airline has set a goal to transition to a complete economy seating layout by 2025, removing business class seats in order to appeal to cost-conscious passengers. Possessing a fleet of more than 90 planes, Air India Express is adequately prepared to meet the growing requests from up-and-coming urban areas in India.
