Overview

Holi in India is celebrated not just as a Festival of Colors but love, gratitude and the celebration of good over evil. Much like any other state, Holi in Sangla Village is celebrated with as much excitement and vigor if not more. But what’s really unique about the Holi Celebration in Kinnaur is that it commences as a part of Faguli Festival which lasts for 4 whole Days.

While the first two days are all about making and distributing local delicacies, offering prayers to the local gods and celebrating the power of their community, the third day brings with it a splash of colors! People from the entire Valley gather around with natural gulaal, buckets of water, flowers and smiles. Children and the elderly, people from all walks of life can be seen carrying that excitement in their eyes and gathering at Sangla Chowk where ‘ Gulaal wali Holi’ is played with full josh.

Imagine being surrounded by gigantic Himalayan peaks covered in fresh snow, as the beats of drum make your feet move, prayer flags flutter with the wind and splashes of color infiltrate the air. It is truly one of the most unique ways to celebrate this joyous festival!

But that's not all, the 4th and last day of this festival is what makes it truly stand out. On this day, mornings start with chants and prayers, diyas are lit at each home and locals look more beautiful than ever in their traditional outfits. To be able to be a part of this Himachali tradition, observing closely the love and culture that binds the community is what makes your travel diaries a more enriching and memorable one.

On this day, along with a spiritual experience you also get to enjoy reliving the epic scenes from Ramayana that are portrayed through interesting street plays where artists can be seen playing different characters, and enjoying in full glory. Later, glasses of local wine and beer along with freshly cooked meat is distributed amongst all to make it a feast of a kind. If you are a Photographer or someone who simply believes travel is all about immersing yourself in new experiences, believe us when we say this, this will be one of the best Holi’s you have ever celebrated!

Things To Pack

Rucksack:

You must pick a good quality backpack with a comfortable fit and straps that won’t give you shoulder pain. You can check out your nearest Decathlon store for a good trekking backpack.

Day-Pack.png

Day Bag / Day Pack:

When you head towards the summit, you are required to carry only a few necessary items and for that, you need a day backpack as you will leave your bigger one on the campsite.

Hiking-Shoes.png

Hiking Shoes :

Durable footwear designed for rugged terrains.

Floaters.png

Floaters or Sandals:

Although the entire trek requires a good quality shoe, you still need to let your feet breathe to avoid chafing and blisters. When you are at the camp, a good pair of sandals and floaters will help you to move freely.

Tees.png

Tees / Tshirts:

You must keep at least three pairs of quick dry tees so that you can wash them in between stops for proper hygiene.

Poncho.png

Poncho:

A poncho is an evolved form of a raincoat that provides coverage to your body as well as your bag and ensures total water protection from rain.

Towel.png

Quick Dry Towel:

A quick dry towel will help in maintaining proper hygiene. It must dry quickly because the wet fabric will only increase the chance of bacterial growth.

Sanitizer.png

Sanitizer:

Essential for maintaining cleanliness while trekking.

Sun-Cap.png

Sun Cap / Hat:

A lightweight sun cap with side flaps is perfect to keep your head cool and avoid sunburns on a sunny day.

Sunscreen.png

Sunscreen SPF 40+:

To avoid sunburns and chafing, you need to put on sunscreen as well as cold cream.

Water.png

Water Bottle (Re-usable):

Hydration is extremely important when it comes to trekking. Carrying a water bottle that you can refill with Himalayan water is a must.

A few cuts and bruises are almost inevitable when you are on a trek so carrying a medical kit with bandages, Dettol, etc is necessary.

Sunglasses.png

Sun Glasses / Reading Glasses:

Photochromatic glasses are specs that are designed to transform into anti-glare shades depending upon exposure to the sun. They are good when it comes to eye protection but one can also opt for clip-on glasses etc.

Hiking-Shoes.png

Trekking Shoes:

A good trekking shoe is comfortable, provides ankle support, and has a good grip as well. They shouldn’t be chunky, instead, they should be lightweight and sturdy.

Socks.png

Cotton Socks:

Cotton socks are extremely comfortable to move around in and are lightweight as well which is why you can always count on a good pair of cotton socks while trekking. However, keep in mind to change them and avoid wearing them when they are wet.

Woolen-Socks.png

Woolen Socks:

A good pair of woolen socks, especially merino, are comfortable, limit odors and provide adequate insulation from the cold so you can wear them at night.

Gloves.png

Woolen Gloves:

Insulated gloves help in maintaining proper body heat in your hands and also provide a better grasp on trekking poles.

Jacket.png

Main Jacket:

It’s emphasized that you need to carry proper layers so you can avoid getting cold which is why you need to carry a heavy jacket that you can put on over your other clothes.

REVIEWS

What our Clients Say About Us

I recently went to Winter Spiti Valley trip with JustWravel which ended up being more as a trip with best friends. JustWravel had everything sorted for us be it transportation, safety, constant checkups, personalised care , accommodation, food and everything was super comfortable and amazing. Then it comes to the best part of this trip our trip captains - Abhishek and Ramneek He treated us like their own brother from day one and made sure all of us are having the time of our lives. They had constant checkups to ensure all of us are doing great physically. They had good knowledge about the place and shared the same with us as well. I would surely plan my next trip with JustWravel. I would like to mention an instance: I forgot my bag in the Volvo bus and there was nothing important in that bag but our captains still went out of their way to ensure that I got my bag safely.

Just got back 😁, from a week-long 20-26th January, all-girls tour package of Manali-Kasol-Jibhi, headed by Geetanjali and Divya, as travel coordinators the trip was truly enjoyable and very memorable, especially for me as the youngest girl, at 56years I,in a group of 16 girls (20 year olds)....the team leader , geetanjali and second in command,Divya are very capable, sporty and encouraging type...they make an excellent combination and have good leadership quality..,will go ,great places in the near future....they are capable of tackling unforseen circumstances in a spirited manner,...also ,not to be forgotten , to complement ,the driving skills of Mr.Mani bhaiya, who navigated the difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, very well.

Thank you JustWravel for giving me one of my best first group-trip experience - All-Girls Spiti Valley trip! I was a bit nervous before the trip began, but within no time, I realised that this was the best decision I took for myself. Saurav was a really friendly and easy-going trip leader and Mani Bhai was the sweetest local guide ever, who drove us around and also developed such a lovely bond with us. Both of them took great care of the group. Felt like family! ?? Lovely stay and food arrangements - never faced an issue even once. Most memorable trip! Thankyou!

I booked my first community trip with Justwravel and it was my best trip so far. I went on the Spiti Valley all girls trip. The accommodations and transport were very good. Everything was on time and I have no complains on the arrangements. We covered all the places according to the itinerary. Our trip captain Saurav Rawat was amazing. He handled all the situations perfectly and made sure we were safe and comfortable at all times. He connected with us instantly and made us feel at home. I had the best time for the entire 10 days. Special thanks to Mani Bhayya for taking us safely to all the places and making sure we have an amazing time in the tempo while travelling. I definitely recommend everyone to try Justwravel and I am looking forward to many more trips with them!!
