The Faguli Festival: A 4-Day Spiritual Transition
What makes Holi in Kinnaur truly unique is its connection to the Faguli Festival. Lasting for four whole days, this ancient tradition marks the arrival of spring.
- The First Two Days: These are dedicated to community bonding. Locals prepare traditional delicacies, offer prayers to their deities, and celebrate the strength of their heritage.
- The Third Day: This is when the valley transforms! Known as ‘Gulaal wali Holi,’ people from all walks of life gather at Sangla Chowk with natural colors, flowers, and smiles, creating a scene straight out of a dream.
Ramayana Street Plays & Local Feasts
The final day of the festival is what stays with you forever. Mornings start with sacred chants and diyas lighting up every home. The highlight of the day is the traditional street plays where local artists portray epic scenes from the Ramayana. As the sun sets, the celebration turns into a grand feast where local wine, traditional brews, and freshly cooked delicacies are shared amongst all, binding the community and travelers in a thread of love.
A Visit to Chitkul (India's Last Village)
No road trip to Kinnaur is complete without visiting Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-Tibetan border. Located at an altitude of 11,320 ft, it offers the cleanest air in India and surreal views of the Baspa River. Credit Note :
The Booking Amount will be credited to your JW Profile which can be accessed by logging in to the website through your Phone Number & OTP. Credit Notes issued have no date of expiry and can be used entirely in any of your future trips.
GST :
Any GST charged on any transaction will not be refunded.
Pending Refund :
Any refund pending on your booking will be credited to the same mode of payment through which you paid in 5-7 working days.
Partial Refund :
Any case in which a partial refund will be issued will be calculated after deducting the Booking Amount and Cancellation Charges depending on the time of Cancellation.
Remaining Amount :
Will be calculated on the amount paid over and above the booking amount.

Is the Sangla Holi trip safe for solo female travelers?
Yes, absolutely. Our all backpacking group trips are designed with a focus on safety and community. We provide experienced trip leads, and the local community in Kinnaur is extremely respectful. Solo female travelers often make up a large part of our groups.
What will be the weather like in Sangla and Chitkul during March?
In March, Kinnaur is in a transition phase. While the sun is pleasant during the day, temperatures can drop to -2°C to 5°C at night. You can expect to see plenty of snow in Chitkul and on the surrounding peaks of the Kinner Kailash range.
What should I pack for the Sangla Holi Road Trip?
Clothing: Heavy woolens, thermals, and a waterproof down jacket.
Holi Gear: Old clothes you don't mind staining, and a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.
Footwear: Sturdy trekking shoes or boots with good grip for snowy patches in Chitkul.
Skincare: Sunscreen and heavy moisturizer, as the mountain sun can be harsh.
Will we visit India’s Last Village on this trip?
Yes, a major highlight of this 6-day itinerary is an excursion to Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-Tibetan border. You will get to explore the Baspa River banks and witness the cleanest air in India while the village is still draped in its winter charm.
What kind of food and stay can I expect in Kinnaur?
We provide comfortable local hotels or homestays on a sharing basis. The meal plan usually includes MAP (Breakfast and Dinner). You will get to taste authentic Himachali cuisine along with standard North Indian meals.
How is mobile connectivity in the Kinnaur Valley?
Jio and Airtel work reasonably well in Sangla and Kalpa. However, in Chitkul, the signal can be intermittent. We recommend informing your family beforehand that you might be out of reach for a few hours during the Chitkul excursion.
Are the Ramayana street plays performed every year?
Yes, the portrayal of the Ramayana through street plays is a mandatory tradition on the 4th day of the Holi festivities in Sangla. It is performed by local artists in the village square (Chowk) and is a must-watch for every traveler.

Got to experience Holi and Faag mela in Sangla, Himachal Pradesh with JustWravel. The itinerary was well curated and we got to celebrate holi with locals of himachal. This was a vibrant celebration where we got to experience the culture of Kinnaur valley. The celebrations went for few days with us vibing to their folk dance and music. Cherry on top was the snow storm at Chitkul and snow fight with the fellow travellers.
The trip captains Aakash, Anushika and Rohit made sure everyone was comfortable and everything went on smoothly. Captains were very chill and candid. Also got to hear a lot of folk lore and stories from Aakash bhai.
I went solo and got to meet really amazing co-travellers. A truly unforgettable trip.

Recently visited Sangla for Holi with Justwravel. It was the most memorable trip till date. Shout out to our trip captains Nandini Arya, Namit Bisht and Abhishek Sudan. These people were extremely friendly and treated us with warmth and patience.
Special mention to our allotted trip lead Nandini who had ~12 solo travellers in her traveller. She was very compassionate and supportive across the trip. I went as a solo traveller but came back with an amazing friend. She behaved with us like a family and took keen interest in telling us stories about each place we visited. Nandini was very caring across the trip as she made sure all the fellow travellers were healthy and had high Josh. We also enjoyed Sangla holi with her and rest of the team captains by playing with Gulal and dancing over traditional Himachali song. I would really want to go for Spitti backpacking trip with jw again. Kudos to energy and enthusiasm.
