Disclaimer:
If you are a boy/man, don’t scroll further. This blog is written for women, by a woman, to make sure she will have the best possible time on your vacation.
As a woman, what’s your most terrifying fear when it comes to planning a trip?
Safety?
Hygiene?
For me, it has always been getting my periods unexpectedly.
Now imagine this (and even while imagining it, let’s pray none of us ever has to go through this):
You are on your dream trip. Wearing one of your most stylish travel outfits. Makeup on point.
Vibing to “illahi”…and boom.
You feel that movement down there.
Let’s be brutally honest, no matter how well you plan your trip, getting your period while travelling can derail all your plans in a second.
But here’s the good part: By understanding your uterus and listening to your body, this worst fear can actually become manageable.
How to Track Your Periods

All of us have our own ways of tracking our periods. Some of us remember dates and cycles by heart, while others mark them on a calendar.
But for the last 4–5 years, I have been using different period tracking apps, and honestly, that decision has made my life so much easier.
If you search on the Play Store or App Store, you’ll find plenty of apps—both free and paid. Some popular ones are Flo, Clue, Drip, My Cycle, and Period Tracker.
As someone who has used all of them over time, here’s my honest comparison:
Flo
Best for women who want an all-in-one experience. It tracks periods, ovulation, PMS, and symptoms with AI-based predictions and educational content. Ideal if you like guidance beyond just logging dates.
Available on iOS & Android.
Clue
Best for those who prefer a science-backed, data-driven approach. Strong on cycle analysis, symptom and mood tracking, and known for its privacy-first stance. Clean design with a solid free version.
Drip
Best for privacy-focused users. Works completely offline—no cloud syncing, ads, or subscriptions. Minimal, no-frills, and purely functional.
Available on Android.
My Cycle
Best for women who want a simple and free period tracker. No ads or in-app purchases. Tracks cycles, symptoms, notes, and fertile days with basic reminders.
Period Tracker
Best for users who prefer a familiar and easy-to-use interface. Covers period predictions, mood and symptom tracking, and reliable reminders.
My personal two cents:

Flo is my personal favorite. You can log your sexual activity, track pregnancy, periods, PMS, and based on that, it gives suggestions for both physical and mental health. It feels like a gentle reminder rather than a medical lecture.
Once you know your dates, you’re already halfway successful in planning your trip.
Planning Is the Key For Managing Periods While Traveling

The simplest solution? Avoid travel dates that clash with your periods.
But what if your travel dates and your cycle are inseparable? No need to panic, there’s a solution for that too.
With proper planning, you can easily manage your periods while travelling. Before heading out, ask yourself these questions:
- What kind of periods do I usually have?
- Do I need painkillers?
- What is my usual flow like?
- How many days does my period last?
- Which period products am I most comfortable with?
- What kind of period kit do I need to prepare?
Tadaaaa!
By simply answering these questions, you already have your plan.
Understanding your periods means understanding your body and that alone makes travelling during your cycle less stressful and far more manageable.
Because periods shouldn’t stop you from living your best travel life
Products to Carry

Choosing the right period products while travelling can make a huge difference to your comfort and confidence. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” here, it’s about what your body is comfortable with.
Pads
The most commonly used and travel-friendly option. Easy to use, easy to change, and perfect if you’re not comfortable experimenting while on a trip. Carry extra pads, especially if your flow is unpredictable, and always keep a few in your daypack for long travel hours.
Menstrual Cups
A great option for women who are already comfortable using them. Cups are eco-friendly, long-lasting, and can be worn for up to 8–10 hours depending on your flow. They’re especially useful on long travel days where washroom breaks may be limited. Just make sure you have access to clean water for proper hygiene.
Tampons
Compact and convenient, especially if you’re planning activities like swimming or trekking. Tampons allow more freedom of movement, but they need to be changed regularly. If you’re new to tampons, it’s better to try them at home before relying on them during a trip.
The key rule: carry what you trust your body with, travel is not the time for risky experiments.
The Last Option – Delay Pills

Sometimes, despite all planning, your period dates just refuse to cooperate.
In such cases, period delay pills can be considered, but only if absolutely necessary. Always consult a doctor before taking them. Every body reacts differently, and what works for one person may not work for another.
This option should be your backup plan, not your first choice. Your health always comes before any itinerary.
How to Ensure Hygiene While Traveling

Maintaining hygiene during your period while travelling isn’t complicated—it just requires a little mindfulness.
- Change products regularly to avoid discomfort or infections
- Carry intimate wipes or tissues for quick freshening up when washrooms aren’t ideal
- Keep hand sanitizer handy, especially during road trips or outdoor activities
- Choose breathable underwear to avoid irritation and rashes
- Dispose of products responsibly, even when facilities are limited—carry disposal bags if needed
Remember: cleanliness equals comfort, and comfort equals confidence.
Nothing Can Stop You. You Go, Girl.
Periods are natural. Travel is empowering. One does not cancel the other. With the right planning, the right products, and a little self-awareness, your period doesn’t get to decide whether you travel or not.
So pack your bags, trust your body, and go live that dream trip, because nothing can stop you.
You go, girl.
