Bomdila is the Headquarters of the West Kameng District ,and offers breathtaking views of the snow-clad peaks,including a clear view of the Kangto and Gorichen peaks, the highest peaks of the state. In the town itself, you can visit craft centres,monastries the ethnographic museum, emporia etc. Located at an altitude of about 2217 metres above sea level, Bomdila is renowned for its Buddhist monasteries and apple orchards.
For the tourist, however, Bomdila is much more than the administrtive headquarters. Everywhere you look you see beauty, as is the entire Kameng Valley.With its Alpine climate, visiting Bomdila in the summer can be an amazing experience.
You do not get restricted to the city limits in Bomdila.If you are a bit adventurous, you are free to trek the hills around, with many routes of several difficulty levels set out for your pleasure. Adventure tourism takes on a very special meaning in these areas, with tourists coming in from round the world.
Or you can just walk the long trails on the luxurious slopes and soak in the quiet beauty.Bomdila is home to Aka (Hrusso), Miji (Sajalong), Monpa. Sherdukpen, and Bogun (Khawas) tribes, and age old traditions are seen in many varied traditional craft that are on display
Monpa folk songs and music form an integral part of the Losar festival celebrated here. Thangka wall hangings, paintings, masks and dragon carpets are some of the specialities of this place.
