Navi Mumbai is a planned town on the west coast of Maharashtra.

There was a rapid urban growth for 25 years after independence in India. This rapid growth of population made it difficult to sustain good and healthy lifestyle with the rapidly growing population, trade and commerce. Several committees were established to counter this situation. Various solutions and action plans were put forth. The plans that were decided to buy into implementation were to connect the Mumbai peninsula by building the rail cum road bridge across the Thane creek and to establish a planned twin city to Bombay across the harbour and the mainland to the east.

This newly developed metro centre was called Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai today is a very active business hub with many secondary and tertiary sector industries and organisations working here in full force.

As the town is well planned the area has several beautiful gardens, jogging tracks, open playgrounds, golf courses, stadiums, Chowpatty, restaurants, and malls. The city is well connected to Mumbai by railway and roadway.

The town is well connected to Mumbai through Vashi bridge and the Mumbai suburban railway network.

Panvel is the major and the busiest railway station in this area. Navi Mumbai also has the largest container terminal – Jawaharlal Nehru Port at Nhava Seva near Uran. The international airport of Navi Mumbai is under construction.

The city is less polluted and a little more cooler than Mumbai. The climate here is quite pleasant during winters. This well planned city promotes tourism om large scale and attracts tourists all round the year. The tourism infrastructure is very well developed here.

The major tourist attractions of the region are – Pandav Kada waterfalls (it is believed that the Pandavas of Mahabharata took a bath here during their exile), central park (a perfect spot to jog, relax or spend a mesmerizing evening with the beauty of the botanical gardens), Nerul (rightly referred as ‘the queen’ of Navi Mumbai is famous for its hillocks and is very popular food hub), Kharghar hill is a very fun chillout place where people also come for morning or evening walks, Vihar Sarovar gardens provide a beautiful sea view.

Other major attractions of the place include Rajiv Gandhi maidan, Raintree Marg, Mango gardens, Wonders Park, Valley Park, Sagar vihar and the ISKON temple.
