Nadia is a district in West Bengal which shares its border with Bangladesh, Murshidabad, Hooghly, Bardhaman & North 24 Parganas. This district is one of the oldest Sanskrit source states of West Bengal.

Ancient mosques, temples, forts & mesmerizing handicrafts make Nadia one of the great tourist destinations of West Bengal. Nadia was also the capital of Bengal under Ballal Sen & Lakshman Sen, kings of Sena Empire who ruled in Bengal from 1159 to 1206.

In 1202 Nabadwip was captured by Bakhtiyar Khilji which paved the way for Muslim rule in Bengal. Cahitanyadeb was also born Nadia. The district headquarters of Nadia, Krishnanagar is the main place of Historical attraction in Nadia. Maharaja of Krishnanagar, Maharaja Krishnachandra got the title of Raja Rajendra Bahadur for having participated for Clive against Siraj in the battle of Plassey.

Numerous cannons are found in the premises of Royal Palace which was gifted as a memento of the battle of Plassey. Krishnanagar is also famous for clay modeling.

Tourists can also visit Nabadwip which is one of the important cultural centers of West Bengal. The first school of logic or Tarkashastra in India was set up in Nabadwip which is known as Navya Nyaya School of Logic.

The birthday celebration of Sri Mahaprabhu Chaitanyadeb, Dol Yatra, Ras Purnima are the must-visit celebrations in Nabadwip.

Mayapur is an important place to visit in Nadia which is the headquarters of ISKCON. Mayapur is considered as a holy place by a number of traditions of Hinduism. The birthplace of Chaitanyadeb which is known as Chaitanyamath, Chand Kazi’s Samadhi, Goswami Maharaj Temple of Dashavatar are also some tourist destinations in Mayapur. If you want to go for saree shopping then Shantipur in Nadia is your ideal place.

There are about 125,000 handlooms in the Shantipur-Fulia area which produce some of the best sarees like Tangail, Shantipuri, Jamdani, Tussar & many others.

Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary which is spread over an area of 67 hectares in Nadia is a dream destination for nature lovers. Tourists can spot Jackal, Spotted Deer, Bengal Fox, Common Langur, Porcupine, Indian Cuckoo, Barbets, various types of birds & small crocodiles which are known as Gharials here.

You can visit Nadia by railways as Krishnanagar City Junction, Nabadwip Dham are some major railway stations in Nadia.

If you want to visit Nadia by flight, the nearest airport to Nadia is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata which is almost 110 Km away from Nadia.
