Itarsi is located in Hoshangabad district and got its name from Intt (brick) and rassi (rope) which used to be traded around the town. It is famous for its beautiful handicrafts and handlooms, soya oil mills and ordnance factories.
Itarsi is a commercial hub for agricultural goods and is the biggest, oldest & the busiest railway junctions in Madhya Pradesh. Rail services from all 4 major metropolitan cities of India namely Mumbai to Calcutta and Delhi to Chennai pass through Itarsi. With the change of time, now plywood factory take the place of "intt" and "rassi."
It has Ordnance Factory Itarsi of the Ordnance Factories Board which manufactures products for the Indian Armed Forces. Itarsi has TAWA reservoir, Tawa Reservoir is a large reservoir on the Tawa River in central India. It is one of the junctions in India and well connected with all the major cities of India like Bhopal and Delhi to the north, Bhusawal and Mumbai to the west, the railway junctions of Nagpur to the south and Jabalpur to the east. The nearest airport is Raja Bhoj airport located in Bhopal Madhya Pradesh.
