Mirik located on the banks of a picturesque lake is a hill station in the Darjeeling District in northern part of West Bengal.
The name Mirik comes from the Lepcha words ‘Mir Yok’ which means ‘Place Burnt by Fire’. Mirik is one of the favorite tourist destinations in West Bengal. It is special to the tourists because of its climate, natural beauty & hospitality of the people of Mirik.
The center of attraction of Mirik is Mirik Lake or the Sumendu Lake by which name it is famous. This beautiful lake is surrounded by a garden on one side & pine trees on the other side, & they are linked together by an arching footbridge called Indreni Pull or Rainbow Bridge.
Tourists can also visit Bokar Ngedon Chokhor Ling Monastery which is one of the prominent Buddhist Centres of this district & which is also home of around 500 monks who participate in practicing & sustaining the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, Debisthan which is a very famous temple of Hindu Goddess located on a beautiful hillock near the lake, Mirik Church which is one of the most beautiful & bigger churches of Darjeeling, Rameetay Dara & Tingling viewpoint from where tourists can enjoy amazing landscapes of Mirik. Mirik is also famous for its oranges.

One of the most expensive orchids in the world flower markets, Cymbidium Orchids grows here as the weather of Mirik is perfect for plantation of this Orchid. So tourists can also get to see these beautiful orchids in Darjeeling Gardens Pvt. Ltd. located in Rato Mate in Mirik.
The sunrise from the sunrise viewpoint is a must-see activity for the tourists as the view of the sun rising in the east & the reflection of the first sun rays on Kanhanjunga in the north is just breathtaking. Tourists also can enjoy horse ride around the lake & paddle boating in the lake.

You can take a bus or hire a taxi from Darjeeling, Kurseong, or Siliguri to get to Mirik. You can also reach there by train as the nearest rail-head to Mirik is New Jalpaiguri.
It is well connected to major cities around India. If You are planning to go there by flight the nearest airport to Mirik is Bagdogra. From there you have to hire a cab or take a bus to reach to Mirik
