Bhalukpong is the entry point to Arunachal and is in the West Kameng District. As you enter this small town,you land in the lap of history, amid the famous archaeological ruins of King Bhaluka, an ancient ruler of the region. Some of the important remains of the capital ofKinf Bhaluka and his grandson Bana of Mahabharata fame have been preserved which speak of its earlier glory.You can also see the remains of a historical fort of 10th - 12th Century AD in the foothills of the region. Situated beside the dense forests that form the border of the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhalukpong is today not merely a favourite picnic spot, but also a great place for rafting, angling on the banks of Kameng river and trekking and hiking. Difficulty levels are not high, and all trekkers can find their own levels.
History apart, Bhalukong is a mesmerizing place for wildlife enthusiasts as it is close to the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary. The mighty river Kameng after completing all turbulent courses enters Bhalukpong in a serene flow which provides rare opportinity of adventure tourism and a beautiful picnic spot.
Fish angling and river rafting are the principal tourist activities in Bhalukpung. Tourist attractions in Bhalukpung include the Pakhui Game Sanctuary and Tipi Orchidariurm, which hosts over 2600 cultivated orchids from 80 different species.
The best time to visit the destination is from October to March. If you are visiting in March, you will be in time for the Nyethidow festival.
