Overview
Rameswaram is one of the most famous religious cities in India. It is situated on a Pamban island and separated by Pamban channel from Sri Lanka. It is believed that this is the place where the Hindu god Rama built a bridge across the sea to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita from her abductor Ravana. Rameswaram is also the closest point to reach Sri Lanka from India. Most of the people residing here are involved in tourism and fishery and it is the main source of income.
