Overview
Nagapattinam is a coastal town which is situated 320 kms from the state capital Chennai. The name of the place was derived from Nagar referring to people from Sri Lanka who settled here and pattinam referring to town. It used to be called Cholakula Vallipattinam back in the Chola period. Fishing is the major occupation of the people residing in this town. Tourism is also a major economic driver because of heritage and historic significance.
