Darjeeling is a popular hill station of West Bengal situated in the Northern part of the state. It still remains a popular summer vacation destination among the people of West Bengal.

This town is also the entry point for the travelers heading towards Sikkim. The attractions of the town are an amalgamation of Tibetan & Nepali culture.

Darjeeling used to be a group of villages that was administered by Nepal & Sikkim. In the year 1881 Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was opened by the Britishers which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many Tibetan refugees moved here after China captured Tibet. You can still find many Tibetans here. Batashiya Loop is the place where the legendary toy train makes a loop & this place is among the most popular places among the tourists.

The Britishers built it during the Raj era & it was the Summer Capital of India during that time. Darjeeling is the destination that provides the opportunity to unwind amidst the scenic and serene environment. Darjeeling is all about magnificent views of snowcapped Kanchenjunga. Tourists have to wake up at 3 A.M. to get an amazing view of the first rays of the sun kissing Mt. Kanchenjunga. You can also enjoy amazing tea on the way to the top of the hill.

Travelers can visit Old Ghoom Monastery, Dali Monastery, Aloobari Monastery, Botanical garden which has a nice collection of flowers & other countless numbers of monasteries there. There is also a Himalayan zoo here where tourists can spot Himalayan region animals including leopards, Royal Bengal Tiger & the famous red panda. There is also an Observatory hill from where tourists can get an amazing view of the Darjeeling city.

Torrents flowing down the mountain slopes, lovely tea gardens, landscapes with firs, pines & ferns, and all that combined with friendly people and modern yet colonial charm. 

For tourists, there are two best seasons to visit Darjeeling town, one during the Spring which is short-lived from March to April, and the other during Autumn (September to November). These are the times when the temperature is pleasantly cool and the sky is usually clear.

The nearest international airport is Bagdogra in Siliguri, 96 km from Darjeeling. Siliguri is the nearest city on the mainline rail network. Ample transport is available to Darjeeling from here. After arrival by train at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri, taxis and shared jeeps continue the trip to Darjeeling. There is a booking counter at the taxi stand in front of the railway station. There is a prepaid taxi stand in front of the train station.

There are buses from Siliguri to Darjeeling, but they are slow because of the steep, twisted, narrow climb to Darjeeling. The option of shared jeeps is available, and it is cheap and faster. But jeeps wait for a full load of passengers before departing. New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri is the nearest station on the main inter-city line.

From NJP, the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), known as the 'Toy Train', completes the journey to Darjeeling.
